About this product

Product Information

This riotous throwback to the slapstick comedy of the vaudeville era is inventively written, directed, co-produced, and performed by Stanley Tucci (BIG NIGHT). He and Oliver Platt play acting partners just trying to catch a break. Down on their luck, they end up as accidental stowaways on an ocean liner. Trapped on the ship, they get involved in hilarious antic after hilarious antic, helped by a fabulous supporting cast including Tony Shalhoub, Lili Taylor, Isabella Rossellini, and the nearly unrecognizable Alfred Molina and Campbell Scott. Reminiscent of MONKEY BUSINESS as well as early Woody Allen (the Woodman actually makes an uncredited appearance in THE IMPOSTORS), the film is a wild romp, expertly put together by Tucci.

Awesome seller! They sent this movie in a quality bubble mailer, with bubble wrap on both sides of the DVD case... And even a piece of bubble wrap between the top of the disc inside the case, to ensure it wouldn't come loose in transit! Listed in Very Good condition. It could have passed as Like New in my opinion. Cover art and disc surface both in perfect condition. 12/10 would buy from again! Great communication with this seller as well.

  • A Quirky, Zany, Frenzied Romp

If you enjoy silly romp films like "It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World," "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way the Forum," "Noises Off," "Some Like It Hot," almost anything by Mel Brooks, the "Road To ..." movies with Bob Hope and Bing Crosby, and the Marx Brothers, you’ll probably get a kick out of this one. The film starts in NYC in the 1930s with two out-of-work actors (Stanley Tucci, Oliver Platt) practicing for roles they’ll never get and trying to scam food. When they insult an overrated stage actor (Alfred Molina), they find themselves running for their lives and hiding on aboard a ship. When they wake up in the morning, the ship – an ocean liner – is preparing to debark. Of course they’re not going to get off the ship in time because they’ve got big work to do coming face to face again ...

  • Guffaw and snortle !

Brilliantly written, outrageously ham-chocked fun-drama hilarity! Does thoughts of two stow-aways escaping the police stuffed onto a cruise ship full of fakes and fanatics soon to be blown-up in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean by a frantic extremist make you dream of fabulous comedic genius? Good! This comedy is wonderfully acted and emotively OVER-acted cleverly-directed pure fun ! .... This film can be watched many, many times. The director gave daily awards, "the Golden Ham" to the actor who most overplayed his or her emotions during the filming of this chortling, wincing, groaning, excellent comedy-gala. The actors must have had an absolutely blast while on the set, and one suspects even the camera-crew of laughing while trying to focus their cameras on the hilarious antics of ...

  • Great movie

This movie is seriously underrated. It's funny, filled with a murderers row of great character actors.

  • An entertaining comedy with a great cast

An entertaining comedy with a great cast, a clever plot and a group of eccentric characters. My wife and I enjoyed it.

  • Sometimes you try TOO hard--

Sometimes you try too hard, and in the case of The Impostors, easing up on the set up, smoothing the transitions, and trying less to go back to the earlier days of comedy movie presentations-- that would have helped. Great actors, great technical presentation, trying to hard on the story? sorry. .
