A very good product..
I brought this bad boy for my niece and she's flipping out over it but i really think she's a little scared of it , LOL ...!!! When the unit was off , i put my finger on the VCR/CBL button and at the same time i hit the power button and the unit set itself back to factory default, then i went to work on setting this rascal up.. I believe in using speakers from the same house so i byamp this unit with Polk speakers raised the level calibration numbers up and the unit came alive... I only wish Onkyo had partnered with Tunein instead of Vtuner in this unit ... Great sound with BASS , i really have no complaints ... I'm pleased because my niece is pleased ... No video OR sound with DVD OR CABLE inputs through the unit!!!
Great sound when using AM and FM, but there is no picture or sound when trying to play a DVD or watch a movie, news or sports from my cable provider. I have two other Onkyo receivers and they perform just fine. I have tried contacting the "pawn shop" I purchased unit from with no success. I attempted to contact Onkyo for technical support and and they have been useless!

Great receiver after Onkyo factory fix.
The 809 is a great reciever that supports 7 channel processing once the HDMI board has been serviced. If it weren't for the HDMI board issues I would have given it 5 stars. There were HDMI board issues which onkyo is now fixing for free and has extended the warranties through the end of 2018. Note that using HDMI passthrough mode does keep the HDMI board powered when the unit is in standby so I recommend disabling it just to be safe. I have also added a 220mm laptop cooling pad fan to the top of mine to help give the HDMI board extra cooling on my AV stand.The 809 is a great reciever that supports 7 channel processing once the HDMI board has been serviced. MY NEXT PURCHACE WILL BE THE ONKYO BD-SP809 BLU-RAY THX 3D READY PLAYER AND THAT WILL COMPLETE MY HOME THEATER SURROUND SOUND SYSTEM!!!

Large, heavy, powerful receiver.
It doesn't have 4k video pass through, limited to 1080p. It is huge, and heavy. It is too large for my entertainment center. The front edge sticks out about 4 inches. The THX sound is amazing. I have hooked up to Onkyo THX certified speaker system and I am impressed. It definitely has enough power.
