Excellent Filter
Can’t find one thing to knock on this filter. Super quiet and easy to put together. I would recommend taking the time to read the instructions that it came with but for the most part, it’s self explanatory. I myself did not use the filters that it came with but rather bought some filter foam and cut it to the right size. Now I have a good filter and I never have to buy replacement filters for it. P.S. I did buy pre-filter sponges for it but it’s certainly is not required Can’t find one thing to knock on this filter. Super quiet and easy to put together. DREADFUL!
First, the description on the item is wrong --- this item does not have the UV Sterilizer component to it. Unfortunately, I did not realize it before installing and running. Had I realized it, the item would have been returned -- pronto. So, now that the item is running it is woefully inadequate --- surface space on the "filter" medium is small and will clog within hours, forcing the water over the lip by the intake siphon, effectively bypassing the filter cartridge. The only good thing to be said about the unit is it's quiet! Another fine Penn Plax product
A very good filter overall, I've used Penn Plax products for over 40 years now and this one lives up to those expectations. However, I will be re-engineering the filtration system somewhat as the pad with the carbon enclosed seems to retard the outflow. I'm thinking coarser medium with an enclosed bag of carbon. . . But on the whole structurally and mechanically it seems very much up to it's task.A very good filter overall, I've used Penn Plax products for over 40 years now and this one lives up to those expectations. I wanted a filter pump for my aquarium that was was dependable, well made, efficient and affordable. My fish were raised from fry and a now large beautiful specimens of red jewel cichlids but what makes them pecial is they were a gift from my mom. When her fish had babies she gave me five. Her fish have all died and these are their legacy, so I want the best for them.
