About this product

Product Information

A welcome original entry into the vast canon of zombie films, THEY CAME BACK offers a humorous poke at the conventions of the genre. Set in a quiet French town, the local residents are in for a shock when the dead come crawling back to life. But they needn't fear, as these undead non-ghouls simply want to come home and resume their lives from whence they left off. As the issue begins to attract attention from outside the village, a huge problem evolves as no one can decide what to do with this convergence of the walking dead. Amusing at first, director Robin Campillo delicately allows a disturbing undercurrent to develop as the film progresses, resulting in a memorable movie with themes that echo the Brit zombie hit SHAUN OF THE DEAD.

  • Art house zombies, less bite more thoughtful

I liked this film, potential genre viewers beware, this is a subtitled French film, but I do enjoy both horror films and art house movies so I had little problem with its leisurely pacing. Other eBay reviewers have commented on its lack of horror, this is true, but there are plenty of unsettling scenes and the film has a genuine sense of unease hanging over it. It takes place in a high-rise suburb of the Ile-de-France, a region of Paris. There is something of a J.G. Ballard feel of dislocation to the urban surroundings that matches the inability of the returned dead to fit in with the lives of their previously grieving loved ones. Similarly, as in the short story The Monkey's Paw, it is perhaps better not to have the dead return because they may not be quite as you'd like them to be. It's ...

  • They Came Back (DVD, 2005)

Pointless. Same kind of mundane story line and acting as that horrible American film; The Happening. OK, so they apparently want me to write at least 100 characters for my review, so here are the other characters they require though I'm bot quite sure what the point of requiring a certain amount of volume is. Unless of course you ascribe to the American notion that More must be better. Ok so I haven't been counting key strokes but I think I'm past 100 so I'll try to post again. PS only read the first full sentence because the rest of this is gibberish.

  • More than genius!

I specifically went on the hunt for this movie. I loved it when I rented it. It is quite a different exploration of the zombie genre, with an original plot that hasn't quite been tackled yet. Imagine if your dead loved ones returned and instead of putting them down like good ol' Romero flicks, you had to PUT THEM BACK into society?? Having to start all over again with the same persons you thought were gone forever. It sometimes seems like a dream come true, because of the unresolved emotions we have towards those who left us before their time, but is it REALLY that much better having them returned after the painful process of grieving? And of course...WHO are we really getting back? Is it our dead loved one or a hollow shell of that person's self? The movie is so dark and so mysterious, ...

  • FRENCH ZOMBIES = ZZZZZZZZZZZZ

FIRST OF ALL I ABSOLUTELY LOVE ZOMBIE MOVIES. I ALSO AM A BIG FAN OF FRENCH HORROR MOVIES. THAT BEING SAID I FIGURED I WOULD BE IN FOR A TREAT... FRENCH ZOMBIES. WELL FRENCH ZOMBIES STINK. THEY GO TO WORK, HAVE CONVERSATIONS AND EVEN GET ROMANTIC. WHAT THEY DON'T DO IS ZOMBIE STUFF, NO SPRINTING , NO SHAMBLING AND NO TERRORIZING THE LIVING. WHAT A TOTAL BOREFEST. THEY SHOULD HAVE STAYED WHERE THEY WERE THEY WERE MORE EXCITING THERE. IF YOU WANT TO SEE A GOOD ZOMBIE MOVIE THEN GET GEORGE ROMEROS DIARY OF THE DEAD OR THE REMAKE OF DAWN OF THE DEAD.

  • Zombie Rights

i am a zombie movie fanatic, i knew this was not a gore killer horror that i love to watch- but this film has a different look/fell/idea of what if the dead came back? i recomened this and Fido(real killer zombies) to anyone looking for a zombie movie thats a little different from just run from the zombies kill them before they kill you!
