    An exceptional lens for tripod photography

    A great lens that requires precise rather than general use. Best used with a tripod it does not easily take filters and has a an exposed bulbous front element. Ideal for architectural and landscape and some types of portrait photography. The lens is extraordinarily sharp with little or no distortion. My friend and I are using this lens to take landscape and seascape as reference for oil and acrylic paintings. The lens has become iconic for many but it really is best to buy it for a reason, otherwise one prime in your most used focal range might suffice.

    Probably the best super wide zoom that I have used

    First things first, this is a serious piece of glass and weighing in at just over 1Kg which means at least two when you hang it off a pro DSLR it's not a lens for the casual user, but then the price should tell you that too. So provided your gym membership is up to date let's crack on. There is a reason why this is classed as one of Nikon's holy trinity of zoom lenses, it's sharpness is just fabulous I've not pushed its maximum aperture yet, but I'm pretty sure it will deliver given the results that I have seen so far. This lens replaced my lovely Sigma 17-35mm f2.8 and for me the extra couple of mm at its widest is a real bonus, the slight downside is the fact that it only goes to 24mm, but teamed with the Nikor 24-70mm f2.8 it makes a perfect travel kit particularly for architectural ...

    I've been looking for this lens at a good price for some time and I've bought this fantastic lens in mint condition for £550.00, an absolute bargain in my opinion when you compare it against the normal retail price brand new around £1400 depending on your choice of either retail Photographic outlets or Online, It delivers edge to edge razor sharpness even wide open at f2.8 with no colour fringing, it's an extremely well built lens as you would expect from Nikon, there are definitely Pros and Cons with a lens like this, on the plus side excellent sharpness without a doubt the sharpest lens ever produced by Nikon and that includes their prime lenses like the 14/2.8, 18/3.5, 20/2.8, 20/1.8G and the 24/1.4, it truly leaves all these lenses back in the car park in my opinion, now for the ...

    zoom sharper than Nikon AF 14mm prime

    It is very sharp, much sharper than the Sigma 12-24mm mkII. Even a touch sharper than Nikon's own AF 14mm prime! Impressive for a zoom lens. Very linear, little distort (stretching) can be seen on the 2 side but not a complain. Quite bulky and heavy, and have to be careful not to scratch the front as it doesn't take filter.
