It all happened late one night in September of 2008. Up and coming entrepreneur, Woody De La Cruz, decided to reach out to one of his favorite local artists, known as Point Blank of The Even Keel. The Even Keel had been performing and promoting their good vibe hip hop for over 3 years, not to mention Point Blank's individual music path, which has spanned across the last 12 years. Woody told Joel D Mutch (Point Blank) that he had an idea for a record company and if he was interested in putting the companies name behind his music career, he was willing to share the responsibilities and the rights with the young star. Also stating that Point Blank and The Even Keel was the only hip hop act on a short list of talented local acts he was interested in working with because of their straight forward style and classy track selection. Woody explained that he had no interest in working with the plether of rappers and DJ's that brag about their off record lifestyles; promoting drugs, gangs, violence, and lack of respect towards women. This held a lot of water with Point Blank, who grew up the son of a preacher and had no plans of changing his message in order to get a record deal. 'It felt like it was meant to be,' he said, 'and the more I thought about it, the more I wanted to move forward with it'. After a short time of contemplation, Joel returned with a verdict of agreement and Hatch It Records was born. Shortly after, contracts were printed and signed and the first task was delegated, the release of The Even Keel's debut album properly titled, 'Coming Up.' Joel disappeared to the studio, where he and his musical counterpart, Wiley Miranda, began finalizing what they believed to be the perfect array of songs to showcase on the CD. The album's release date went public December of 2008 and was scheduled for distribution in late January 2009. Well, things didn't exactly go as planned and the young men found themselves at odds with meeting the deadline for their first CD release. They reconviened and wrote out a game plan that detailed each partner's duties. This would prove highly effective as things began to get done on a regular basis and the company started operating like a finely tuned machine. Needless to say, the company is now promoting their release party. It's set for March 27th, 2009 to be held in Club Tremors located in the back of The Pacific Beach Bar and Grill. Joel D Mutch prides himself on his ability, to not only entertain, but to throw a party that transends far beyond the music. What started with a rapper and a hype man now boasts; a well known local DJ, lights, a visual slideshow, singers, guest performers, a live painting to be auctioned off at the end of the night, and a collaboration with The American Cancer Association. $1 from all CD sales will be donated to the ACA as well as 10% of the painting proceeds. To add to all the before mentioned amenities, the show is 100% free.
