I'm rating the game 4/5 because that's what it would be if the included wireless guitar was in working order, but that's what I get for not buying this new. (Should have spent the extra 60.00 or so dollars on the new version) I bought this title with idea of saving some money and it backfired, but not going to get into that. The game is a good game for what it's worth. The kids enjoy the singing and drumming aspects. They only play to a few songs, but over time, they'll get into full swing of the game. As far as the graphics are concerned, I enjoy the GUI, but the 3d models of the band mates are just horrendous! The Wii's graphical capabilites aren't that bad...this was just a lazy attempt at modelling the characters in the game. Everything else seems solid. Not much else to say at this point. Graphics - 2/5 Sound - 5/5 Music - 4/5 (No real Black Metal bands...boohoo!) Gameplay - 4/5 (Probably would be 5/5 with working wireless guitar.) Overall - 4/5Read full review
I bought this for my son to accompany the Wii he got for Christmas. We had experienced Rock Band 2 on the Xbox 360 through a friend of ours and decided we wanted to get a copy for our son as he enjoyed it so much. Gameplay: The instructions are very simple, activate the correct buttons at the correct time and have fun playing the songs. There is a great selection of classic and current music to play with the game, and as you play the game will automatically ramp up your difficulty level Accessories: The drum set is amazing. The pads are responsive and the height adjustment is easy to do. The guitar is a Fender Stratocaster style guitar, looks and feels great. I tried to learn to play the guitar a number of years ago and failed miserably. With Rock Band 2, I grind the axe like nobody's business. The microphone is pretty straightforward.... it's a mic, you sing into it. The only part that I would point out, is that you have 2 dongles to connect to the Wii when you want to play (or leave them connected to the 2 USB slots like we do) and when you want to play, you have to push the connect button on each dongle to get the instruments to connect tot he Wii. On the plus side, both the drums and guitar have power switches (not just the little button, but an actual slide 'on/off' switch) to save batteries when the game is not being played. This is one complaint that I have heard about the Xbox version, is that they go through batteries vary quickly. My instruments came with batteries from the seller, and we play daily and I haven't had to replace the batteries yet (2+ hours a day between the kids and the adults for about 3 weeks now) We turn the switch off when we're done and the batteries are lasting very well. (knock wood, because now that I said that, they'll die on me tonight... lol) Overall, I think that this is a great setup and anyone who is debating between the two, the battery set up alone makes it worth going for the Wii version. I would also suggest getting a set of professional drum sticks, as the ones that come with the game are a little on the lightweight side. (Wal Mart has them for $8 a set) Have fun playing and enjoy jamming out to some great music!!Read full review
In a day where MTV does not play music except in the early hours of the morning, they have collaborated with Harmonix to create the Rock Band franchise. Rock Band is the result of a separation from Red Octane and Activision to create a band orientated game rather than just a guitar-based game. There is a lead guitarist, bass guitarist, a drummer and a singer. Visually the game is not much better than before. While there are obvious attempts at making the backgrounds seem more like a music video during songs, there is little difference. The menus have been grouped in such a way that some players may be confused. Simply think about how many songs you want to play and the number of people who will play. Then players should choose the appropriate game mode. The game's audio is superb. For anyone with a decent sound system, they will hear subtle changes between the individual instruments as they each choose a side or fade in to the background. Sometimes it seems like half of the band is playing out of the left speaker and the other half out of the right. The on disc music selection is down the center of rock history, no true rock fan should feel jilted. This game is not for people who only like one or two rock groups and are not open to new music. The character creation mode is a big improvement over the previous Rock Band game. Almost every possible different item of clothing and body type is available. Players begin with a bare minimum of clothing and starter instruments and can build upwards as they gain wealth. At a certain point, players will even be able to leave their hometown and hire staff. The trend with musical games switching from single songs to gigs with multiple songs and no breaks in between makes the experience feel as if the player were performing at a real concert. The funny part is during sets when songs sung by females are mouthed by the male on stage or when songs sung by males are mouthed by the female on stage. For users of the Nintendo Wii, this game is superior to its competitors when it comes to the online features. Four band members can play at the same time in any possible combination, be it local or on four separate Wiis over the Internet. Toss in the ability to compete against another band and that is eight players at a time! These options and more were available for the Sony Playstation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360 at the release of the original Rock Band. Harmonix made it clear that the multiple delays for the Wii version of Rock Band 2 was to ensure a similar experience compared to the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 owners. The year 2008 marked a trend towards music game peripheral universal compatibility. For the most part the guitars, drums and microphones for one game could be played with other games in the genre. There is even a few cases where instruments can be played across platforms, but those normally have to be connected via USB. This game has 100 songs, 80 on disc and 20 available for free download. Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 owners have the luxury of converting previous Rock Band tracks to be compatible with Rock Band 2. Wii users are able to download tracks from both the previous game and downloadable content to a SD card. Sony Playstation 2 owners will have to go without any online features. Luckily, everyone can buy the Rock Band Track Pack stand-alone titles that feature at least 20 previously released downloadable songs or specialty content.Read full review
Absolutely awesome game! We bought the Rock Band 2 Special Edition Bundle. My husband, son and I thoroughly enjoy playing this game together. Great way to spend family time! It comes with a very nice guitar, set of drums and a great microphone. Guitar is much nicer than the one you get with Guitar Hero. You can also add your Guitar Hero GUITAR and have a BASS and GUITAR going at the same time! Pretty cool! It has a lot of nice features; like the ability to pick your character, dress it from head to toe, add a tatoo if desired, change hair color, hair style, etc. Has a lot more added features than Rock Band has! Really awesome game! We highly recommend this game to everyone! You won't be dissappointed! Rock On!
We had originaly owned Rock Band for PS2 and we enjoyed the game very much. We purchased a Wii and sold our PS2. Rock Band 2 had not been released for the Wii so we got Guitar Hero World Tour instead. It look similar and it had symbals for the drums which Rock Band did not originally have. BIG MISTAKE! We did not enjoy it nearly as much as Rock Band so we decided to sell it for a loss and purchase Rock Band 2. BEST DECISION we could have made. Rock Band 2 is a blast! We enjoy the game play and general lay out of Rock Band 2 much better than Guitar Hero WT. Every time we turned off Guitar Hero WT we had to recalibrate the instruments before we could play again. No such problem with Rock Band 2. The amount of tracks that come with each is similar but we prefer the music on the Rock Band 2. Additionally, there are more downloadable tracks for Rock Band 2. If a person learned to play these music games on Guitar Hero they might prefer it but for us there was no comparison. Playing Rock Band 2 is by far more fun to play and not having to recalibrate the instrument every time is an added plus. Rating each I would give Rock Band 2 a 5+ out of 5 and Guitar Hero WT I would give a 2+ to 3-.Read full review
