      Inconsistent heating

      Granted, I purchased this to cast zinc, not lead. I have had a Lyman Mag 20 furnace for over 25 years, and it does a great job. But melting zinc in it left quite a mess that was difficult to clean up. So I purchased this Big Dipper, at a really good price, it shipped quickly, and arrived in perfect condition. But the heating elements must be minimal inside. The metal near the bottom melted just fine, but as it goes higher in the pot, the heating was inconsistent, and near impossible to get a good pour. I won't be using this for zinc again. But I'll have to try some lead in it to cast some roundball, just to give it a fair shake. Casting any other bullets, I'll stick with my Mag 20.

      OK with Product.. Like capacity and ease of use for my purpose

      Loose t-stat knob shaft and one of three legs also loose. Otherwise OK for the price and quality. Heats up OK used a couple of times so far but did not melt to full capacity about half only. I'm satisfied overall with this product and price. Suggested parts quality and assembly inspection could be improved. I did not want to rate quality as No or Yes but "Acceptable" due to its condition which I understand. I would purchase another and recommend to others. Thank You.

      More than JUST a furnace.

      Although this was designed to melt lead and tin, I found another use that was unexpected and very handy. I make jewelry using the lost wax method. TRhis little furnace works so well, I didn't have to fire up my power eating kiln that I use for burnouts. For small canisters 3" or less, this furnace fits the bill. OH! it's also great at it's intended use of melting lead and tin.

      The price and great for its size

      I bought this because of the cheap price. I have used this casting furnace for about 3 months and have melted and casted more then 25lbs of lead with this product. Great product!

      Fast Melt

      I bought the Big Dipper because I prefer to use a ladle for pouring bullets. It melts the lead twice as fast as the propane/cast iron pot setup I was using. It's a small thing, but I gave it 4 stars for not having numbers correlating to temperature range.
