    Does the job.

    This was the missing piece in the puzzle. My new TV (55" 4k Samsung) didn't have an headphone out jack (analog), only a HD audio out (optical). This D/A converter got me from the HD optical out port to an analog input to my bluetooth transmitter and to my bluetooth headphones. Headphones work fine along with the TV speakers. About the only downside to this setup is I have to pair the headphones and the BT transmitter when I want to use them. There is a BlueTooth transmitter/receiver with an HD optical input available which automatically pairs with headphones (I am considering it). It is about twice the price. However if you are starting from scratch it is probably a more convenient way to go.
