  • Pages of Nietzsche and Holmes mixed up, and Turner drew them.

This is still a wonderful novella. It is quite possible Grant Morrison's most endearing projects, even though made almost invisible under the weight of more commercially successful work. A little gem of manichaeism, brilliantly subverted through its own exaggeration, this is a crime novel imbued with lofty reflections (I wonder if Nic Pizzolatto had this on his bedside table while writing the first season of "True Detective"). Of course, a great part of its power comes from the lavish images by Jon J Muth, who seems to imbue his drawings with an eerie fluidity.
