Solid piece packed with unique features
I normally don't gravitate towards chronos, but this one had some unique features that grabbed my attention. Normally, chronos have two "second" hands: one for timekeeping, and the other for the chronograph. Because nearly everyone has some kind of mobile device with an easy to use and read stopwatch, chronographs on watches are more of a novelty. Because of this, the large "second" hand tends to be unused until you want to just play or show off the chronograph function. To me this is wasted resources. But this watch is different. The large "second" hand has multiple functions: chronograph, date, month, and leap year. My favorite is the date function. The inner ring has numerals 1-31. You can leave it in date function and it will jump to the next date at midnight. Even better is that this is a perpetual calendar meaning you set the date correctly once, and it will account for leap years and months that do not have all 31 days! Next feature is the top subdial at 12. It show the day of the week, mode selection, and power reserve. Since it's a solar charging quartz, it's nice to know the power reserve. Especially for watch collectors like me that rotate different pieces on the regular. The crystal is sapphire, and in this price range this is VERY rare. The crown is screw down to seal out the elements and the hand and hour markers are painted with Seiko's LumiBrite. It's not as bright as my Seiko Prospex Kinetic GMT Diver, but it's still bright and legible. Lug width is 21mm. This is one thing i didn't like about the watch. Not a deal breaker. Luckily the stainless steel band is comfortable and stylish (without being "blingy"). 21mm is rare when shopping for bands, but I think I can squeeze my 22mm NATO on it. Overall, I think this watch has great wrist presence, very functional, unique, and built to last for many years as a daily timekeeper.Read full review
