About this product
Product Information
Lost Magic is the first role-playing game on Nintendo DS to feature inclusive use of the stylus for movement and spell casting. A fledgling wizard named Isaac is charged with the task of vanquishing a sinister force that has overrun the world. To succeed, Isaac must harness powers found within seven wands to conjure and then control monsters in magic-based battles. The action unfolds on the touch screen as players navigate maze-like environments from an overhead perspective. A map display on the top screen highlights enemy forces in red, along with health information on party members and level objectives. Spells involve dragging the stylus across the screen in various zigzagging motions to cast ice walls, health-replenishing prayers, fiery blasts, and more. Over 350 distinct combinations are possible, with players able to link together three single spells for more powerful results. Wi-Fi support is also included for head-to-head duels against friends.
This game fully utilizes the DS's unique touchscreen and stylus. Lost Magic is a unique, if short, RPG.
The battle system is what make this game stand out from the handheld RPG crowd. It appears to have been lifted straight from a Real-time stategy game. This isn't a bad thing, it actually works rather well. You send in your grunts to perform physical attacks while you use the stylus to draw symbols to perfom magic spells. The beginning spells are very basic, very simple, but as the game progresses you earn better, more difficult spells. The more accurately you draw a symbol, the more powerful the spell is. There is a bit of a learning curve as you progress to the more difficult spells.
The story is not the greatest story I've seen in an RPG, but it certainly isn't the worst. It is somewhat short for an RPG, but it was enjoyable enough.
The graphics are good, but somewhat cartoonish for my taste.
Lost Magic was one of the first good games to be released for the Nintendo DS which still struggles to give a good showing in the RPG genre. If you're not a fan of Final Fantasy and don't want to give FFIII a try, you should give this one a shot. It brings somehting new to RPGs.Read full review
Lost Magic for the Nintendo DS is a great game for those interested in getting into RPG games. You are Isaac, the son of a powerful mage who has gone missing. Your journey begins in the search for your father, and quickly picks up into a great storyline. One of the key features of this game is the ability to capture monsters you battle against and recruit them to fight for you. The game incorporates an experience system, in which you and your captured monsters level up upon victories. But perhaps the best feature of this game is the use of the stylus on the ds to draw magic runes directly on your screen, and the accuracy of these drawings directly influences the effects of your attack. Another great feature is the WIFI multiplayer feature which allows you to duel with other players all over the globe. However, there are a few bad points to the game. Firstly, it is a short game as far as RPG's go. Secondly, the dialogue is lacking. The reading level of this game is maybe first or second grade.
Since the DS has so few great titles, Lost Magic is a great RPG for anyone with a DS. A drawback is that it lacks the magic of a good RPG for the enthusiasts out there. Don't be surprised if it doesn't amaze you as much as a Final Fantasy title. :)Read full review
This is an incredible game and should be part of every gamers collection!
Lost Magic is one of my favorite games for the Nintendo DS. It incorporates a great use for the stylus and a great, if a little short, story. The game centers on combat where you start with a few runes and you get more during the game. Runes are the shapes you draw with the stylus to activate different spells. By the end game you have 18 different runes and you can mix and match up to 3 at any time. This makes for extremely varied game play and never gets old. Along with magic you can catch monsters that you fight that level up as you do and become more powerful than they were to begin with. With so many different spells to cast, an immense amount of monsters you can catch, and lots of varying locations that will test your every strategy this game is lots of fun and kept me addicted for days. And even when you beat it you can start over with all of your runes and monsters unlocked and the enemies get harder so that you can try out all of the different spells, because believe me, you won't use them all in only one play through.Read full review
Lost Magic by Ubisoft is a unique game where you use your DS stylus to draw symbols and cast spells. Here I'll list some of the good things and bad things that I've noticed about the game.
Ups:
- a very unique game, with a pretty good storyline and lots of action
- has DS download, Multi Card Play, and Nintendo Wifi Connection multiplayer
- pretty much nonstop action.
- the Nintendo WFC supports voice chat, but only if you and the person you know exchange friend codes.
Downs:
- The graphics and sound are really bad, especially compared to games like Metroid: Prime Hunters and Mario Kart DS. It's like they took a gameboy advance game and added stylus control.
- The DS Download game doesn't let you play with anyone else, it simply sends the other person a demo of the game that they have to play by themselves.
- The Nintendo WFC lags when playing, and that defeats the purpose of playing the game, because the game is meant to be played fast.
- the game gets slow when there is a lot of action, and it really takes away from the fun of the game.
- The only type of multiplayer battle is 1 on 1.
Overall, I would rate this game below average, because it has some problems, but if a sequel comes out that corrected all of these problems, it would be a great game! I wouldn't recommend spending more than $10 on this game, but if you find a good bargain for it, its worth a try.Read full review
This is a fun game to play on any of the ds or 3ds consoles. I got 2 copies of the game to have spell battles with friends. Fun game from my childhood.
