These have quite the versatile sound to them. You can connect to the universal battery they sell or connect to a 9v, but go with the universal battery they sell. Very important: make sure all the stuff fits inside your electronic compartment in the back of your guitar. It can be really tight. Do a dry fit before you install these if you're doing them yourself. These pickups cannot direct mount. That means you have to install them into pickup rings, which may mean you have to install those yourself as well. Having a pair of digital calipers made measuring a lot of spaces very easy. I ended up measuring the pickup cavities, the pickups and the pickup rings I had to install. This pickup set, and I imagine most Fishman sets, will have a broader function if you have 4 knobs on your guitar (two tone and two volume), this way you can coil tap and have multiple voicing etc. These have a lot of options for installing and with sounds you can get. Everything you hear about these does sounds true. Would totally buy these again.Read full review

With loads of headroom, little to no noise, Fishman Fluence Moderns allow you to reach and surpass the EMG 81's, Livewires and the like, but with added headroom, robust presence throughout desirable frequencies and low to no noise. The main sacrifice is battery life but Fishman has solutions for this, including their own battery pack option. The tonal different is well worth the price and power consumption. The pickup deliver balanced and consistent tone and gain, being ideal for recording. Versatility with 2 distinct and dramatically different voicings that can be engaged via pull/push knobs. Because of the clear and present frequencies, the tone control pot, provides a sweeping and lush variety of options that just are not present (or perhaps not as evident) on your average active pickup. A beast of a pickup, the Fluence family of pickups are here to stay. I tested mine on 2 different guitars: ESP MH-103QM and an Ibanez RGAIX6, different woods, string types/gauges, and primarily looked at clean, overdriven, high gain distortion, heavily processed and transparent tone testing scenarios with live amps (EVH 5150 III, Mesa Boogie Rectifier) as well as DI (Audient id14 JFET DI) to digital amps (Positive Grid BIAS DESKTOP, Avid Elevenrack, JST)Read full review
