  • Penitentiary Blues-from Jerry Lee to Screamin'Jay

This is DAC's 1st album from 1969,which is essentially a blues album with a heavy Screamin' Jay Hawkins/Jerry Lee Lewis/rock n roll influence. This is a little more raw than the Columbia releases, but for any TRUE DAC fan this is a must.As you can surmise from the title these are songs DAC wrote while in prison and the subject matter leans heavily on talk of freedom, bondage, and chains, cell blocks, last meals, and wardens...if yr a coe fan or even a blues fan, pick this one up,you won't be disappointed.

  • It kinda grew on me the more I listened .....

I bought this CD from reading positive reviews by other buyers. First David Allan Coe album I bought. I must admit it took a little time but this album grew on me. I put on my computer, my Walkman and burned a copy. It's become a favorite country and blues album for me.

  • great debut album

Great debut album from an under-appreciated country singer and writer unique songs, however they do start to sound alike. This album is a must for any D.A.C. fan.
