I just completed an outstanding sound check with my used Boss OD 20 duel pedal purchase. It was quite a treat to play thru all the vintage overdrive and distortion tones of years past and to tweak several of them to a even deeper levels of fat or thin tones. All tone and selection knobs worked flawlessly. No annoying noises. I feel fortunate to have track down a dual pedal in such good shape (I had been searching for over a year) both in looks and functionality (all mint close to brand new). It came in original box with appropriate serial numbers and manual. The thing is--the price was right in line with today's going price for used BOSS OD 20. Which added up to be a surprisingly Great Deal!

The BOSS OD-20 is a very ruggedly built, buffered multi-effects pedal. The clones of the ProCo RAT and Klon Centaur sounded very similar to the real deal to my ears. The emulation of classic BOSS pedals is interesting because of the additional controls not present on the original. It will take some time to dial in an identical sound, but if you're looking for a swiss army knife of overdrive and distortion tone then the OD-20 is great. For gigging the ability to create and save presets is the killer feature. Jump into your sizzling leads with a tap of your foot, or setup programs to cover an entire session.

This pedal uses COSM processor modeling to emulate various famous fuzz, distortion and overdrive pedals. Though BOSS sold it as a thing that would give you all or most of their distortion and overdrive pedals in one, I find the OD-20 doesn't really emulate them very well. The original version of those pedals sound better to my ears. It failed at those things so was discontinued. What the OD-20 does really well, at least mine, is emulate Fuzz Face, Octave Fuzz, Big Muff and Rat very well. In other words this box is best used for wild distortion, fuzz and octave effects. A low octave boost pot adds heavy depth on tap. There's a BOSS MT-2 emulation that also rocks. You can choose straight presets or you can tweak them with manual controls and then store 4 different sounds, plus a separate manual sound, giving you 5 distortion/fuzz options at any time. Switching between them is not the most elegant, I don't recommend it if you're trying to switch between 2 sounds back and forth quickly. But if you set your amp at a warm clean sound, you can go from that to wild mad fuzz in a stomp. Add an overdrive pedal for something in between or use a clean and an overdrive channel in your amp. Did I mention the OD-20 can also switch your amp's channels for you? Great if you don't have the original switch for your two channel amp. It's sturdy and reliable, it's a tank. Non stop fuzz face and big muff emulation. If you're into those sounds this baby is handy to have.Read full review
If you're only going to use one pedal this is the one to have. Pretty straight forward other than the programing and even that wasn't too bad once you play with it a little and get use to it. Very versatile and sounds great. Shipped right away and came on time. I dig it I'm sure you will too. I do suggest getting a power cord (about 10 bucks) or expect to use a lot of batteries. Highly recommended...

Good choice for beginners. This was a duplicate of the first distortion pedal I had in 1988-90.
