'Before beginning with this part of The Ring Trilogy, a reminder that there's also a review of the complete Trilogy elsewhere on eBay. That review obviously includes The Two Towers, but not to the extent that this does. The idea of recognizing each part as a component should also be remembered. Notwithstanding that each of the three parts may also be considered individually. The second part of the Trilogy contiues the fantasy tale of Frodo returning the ring to the source as a way of nullifying the evil that could be caused. Though this may not be accurate as the actual written narrative, the film version introduces another character during this part, the Golum, an emaciated changeling. Right away, the creature wants to have the Ring. The two towers of Sauroman and Soran represent the ... And needless to say, they also want the power of the ring as part of their cause. So, as the Orcs, they have begun to march on the kingdoms of middle earth. Besides the arduous journey of the two Hobbits and the Golum that has been recruited as their guide over the mountains to Mordor, there are numerous military encounters. After the first part of the Trilogy, the troops of the mortal middle earthlings are victorious over a legion of the Orcs as they are marching to Rohan. So the resolve of the middle earlthlings continues to be reconfirmed while the reality of the threat of their extermination also grows. They continue to form alliances against their common enemy. Of course, the results are some epic battle scenes that combine analog and digital revisions. The PG13 ratings are based upon these sequences. But the spectacle of gore and medieval battle engines has nearly no respite to balance them. The main theme of the film seems to be the senseless slaughter of battle after yet another battle. No cozy romance, no soft breasts or lingering kisses as counterpoint to the butchering madness. So needless to say, the idea may tend to actually get monotonous. Not because there aren't enough worthy causes,. . the whole of mankind has been slated for extinction according to the scheming Saruman and Saron. But the digital armor does have some chinks of credibility, and the computer-generated sequences that are most reminiscent of the video game genre tend to lessen some of the credibility of the battles. If you have anopportunity to view Sword of LAncelot or the Arthur legend, where no digitalization was used, you realize that they are at least as realistic as the enhanced counterparts. And so the second part of The Ring Trilogy concludes with the loss of Helms Deep, the remaining fortress of the human's world,, and the anticipation of impending conflict.'

Great Epic
I bought this on VHS for one reason. I was hoping the color was less filtered then the DVD. Everything is green and gray and far too filtered. The first film was much less filtered but I suppose it is because thats the effect Jackson wanted. The VHS version is just a little better so I will keep it. I have seen the trilogy on DVD about 15 times now apart from the movie viewing. I do hope they carry on with other films in this genre. I recently bought the books "The Silmarillon" and "Children of Hurin" which I do hope will become prequel and postquels of the trilogy.I bought this on VHS for one reason. Elijah Wood plays Frodo, a Hobbit destined to take the One Ring to the mountains of Mordor to destroy it once and for all. His friend Samwise Gamgee (Sean Astin) goes with Frodo to destroy the One Ring. Aragorn, (Viggo Mortensen) Legolas, (Orlando Bloom) and Gimli (Don't remember real name) go to find Pippen and Merry who were captured by Orcs. This is not a movie to miss!This is a great movie! Defective
The tape was defective and came apart when we put it in the VCR. We have watched other movies since on the same VCR with no issues.
