  • Rubalcaba is an innovator...

Gonzalo Rubalcaba is always on the cutting edge of the innovative spirit of music. This particular cd is no exception. It is good, solid jazz stuff, played extremely well. He is the Cuban who sounds unlike a Cuban. He is the Cuban who is the heart of the Cuban musical venue. He is both. Yet, one has to enter into his music with an open ear without other distractions. I like this recording even though I don't like presumptuous titles, like, "Avatar". It seems to me he is reaching out for something he cannot comprehend or understand, even through the intellectable means provided by music and jazz. I rate this recording as "good". Perhaps I am a bit stingy. Sorry. Nonetheless, Viva Gonzalo!
