The Disgaea series has long been a series that has held true to one policy over the years, "If it's not broken, don't fix it." The Disgaea games on this title are no exception to this rule. Granted that this game contains three separate games it might be better to seek out a review for each individual game if you are seeking in-depths details and specifics about each. This will simply be an implicit review of the "idea" that is Disgaea and what you can expect. Despite some added combat features, expanded classes, and new gameplay mechanics to help change some things. for all intent and purpose. the core of the games is identical to its predecessors. Any veteran of the past games can pick it up and jump right in with little to no loss of skill. The games all offer lovable characters with extreme personalities that a player can easily relate to or cheer on. Combined with the tongue-in-cheek dark humor and satire as well as hoards of references from past games and animes you are always bound to find something new to give you a good chuckle each time you play it. All the games offer this great humor, strong strategy gameplay, and semi-complex character and item management so you never really feel like a fish out of the water. Sadly, this is one of the games weaknesses. Since the games all hold true to their core and offer similar gameplay after a while it can seem like you're not really playing a new game. Just an extension of a previous game, like an expansion pack. Top it off with a somewhat brutal difficulty curve and the main storyline which cannot be complete without hours of grinding and it becomes apparent that Disgaea, any of them, is not the game for some, especially the more casual RPG gamers. In fact, just managing to finish the story mode is usually the bottom tier of accomplishments in these games. All in all, Disgaea is a fun series that anyone can pick up and enjoy. Yet, with the hundreds of hidden secrets, dozens of classes and abilities, and absurd level cap don't expect to finish this game anytime soon unless you are willing to devote lots of time and energy to the cause of evil.Read full review
