Hi There - The unit does not receive the signal from the remote, on practically all the commands. I tested the remote with another Denon unit(different model), and the remote worked quite well - so the problem is the unit - it blinks a red light on the commands continuously, but doesn’t execute the function. Please advise

Denon DVD-557 DVD Player
The Denon Dvd-557 DVD player is a good entry level DVD player which stand with many DVD players of higher category, that is if you are into high end home theather. The player has the ability to upscale video outputs up to 1080i and reproduce excellent depth of colors, with many features that makes the picture crystal clear. The remote is simple and user friendly, the encasing feels well constructed and lighting is subtle enough so it does not distract you with bright LEDs in front panel. The draw back of this DVD player is the lack of decoders for the audio output, the price is higher than others with the same features, it lacks enough outputs and inputs in the back for more flexibility of connection. Therefore you are forced to own an amplifier with Dolby Digital or DTS ... The Denon Dvd-557 DVD player is a good entry level DVD player which stand with many DVD players of higher category, that is if you are into high end home theather. A nice DVD player
I don't watch TV, and I seldom watch DVDs. I didn't have to pay as much as I did for this player, but it gives a decent picture. The upscaling (480/720/1080) is a nice feature, but unnecessary for my needs, really. You pay more for the name than anything else, really. I reckon I did get bragging rights for getting the "Denon" badging on the face of it. Unless you're one of "those" types that watch movies through a magnifying glass and count pixels, you can get just as good for half the price.I don't watch TV, and I seldom watch DVDs.
