About this product

Product Information

It is said the visual range we can see things clearly is around 50 degrees (diagonal). The standard lens is based on an angle close to 47 degrees (diagonal), and thus comes close to our clear vision range. One of the characteristics of a "standard lens" is its fast speed (f 1.2 to f 2.0). The advantage to these faster lenses is the ability to focus and see through the camera in poor light. Since the 50mm lens introduces very little distortion compared to our vision, it is ideal for accurate and subtle compositions.

    Cheap, good manual macro lens

I purchased this lens for about $55, figuring at that price I could not lose. My experience with this lens is broadly similar as with other manual lenses on my OMD EM 1. Wide open, they're not great. Very soft (although this one, at 3.5 maximum aperture, isn't bad). But stopped down some, the IQ is quite good. And the price is always right. Plus, this lens is gorgeous.

  • Short, Slim, Sharp. Simply Superior!

in the quick, GREAT lens, small sharp excellent handling, a great value. Learn more, read on ;) I love my macro work, I have a 36" on my 4x5 so i can get serious magnification, so when I purchased a NEX camera body, I went a big nuts and purchased many different lenses to find the best! The NEX has a light anti ailisang filter on the High Resolution sensor, and with adapter will take lenses from most mounts. The one problem (advantage really) is I don't record same image area as a 35mm frame the smaller sensor just using the sharper center area (sweet spot) of sharpness. I compared the Nikon 55, 60 macro, Minolta 55, 80 macro and this Olmpus 50, and I tried a Minolta 55/1.4 on the bellows to compare. This is what i found. This is the smallest and lightest of the bunch. The Nikon 60 ...

  • never knew this lens existed...

When used on my Sony A7's I can't help but to realise how sharp this little lens really is, I love old lenses and especially Olympus Zuiko which were known for resolution, so glad that I found this little germ.

  • Very sharp little lens at a bargain price.

This is a wonderful little lens that can be had for a bargain price these days. Picture quality is absolutely stuning even at wide open aperture. Amazingly sharp. The only reason to stop down is to increase the depth of field, not the sharpness. Colors and contrast are also excellent. And the depth of field preview button on the lens is very handy when you want to stop down after you focus at wide open aperture because you can set the aperture before you focus and simple press on the button gives you the desired aperture.

  • High quality macro / walk-around fixed lens.

I have been after this particular macro lens for some time, awaiting a favorable price. Got my chance and jumped on it, and I don't regret it one moment. The lens is well known for it's high quality, not only as a macro lens, but also as an excellent walk-around fixed lens. I'm using it on a DSLR and simply loving it.
