    Fun, light-hearted Sci-Fi Spoof Flick

Doesn’t take itself too seriously, & you shouldn’t either. Enjoyed it as a light night of video Sci-Fi entertainment, similar in style as Mars Attacks (1996) or 5th Element (1997), to me. I’ll rewatch again.

  • Sky Captain and the World of tomorrow

Technically, the movie is a masterpiece of the marriage of 40's Film Noir genre and comic book arch evil bad guys, such as Fu Man Chu. Jude Law and Gwynith Paltrow are passably good, but Angelina Jolle --- a good actor in her own right --- is badly miscast. Overall the film has a great beginning, but is a little long and tends to create lapses of sleep apnea at times. But I would see it again, and I did buy the DVD because I love the robots and planes! But please! Dir. should have given Tottenkoff more life! Even Himmler had a family and was perported to be a doting, loving father. And please! No sequels! ____ Mike C. Bodine

  • FUN, FUN, FUN, FUN, FUN!!!!

The main criticism I've heard about this movie is that it was too mechanical (acting-wise) and slow-paced. Well, guess what... it's a 50's serial!! It's supposed to be!!! It's a hoot and the acting reflects the silly, overly dramatic style used in the 1950s sci-fi cliff-hangers. The special effects & costumes were superb and the story was a little boys' dream come true!!! Mechanical monsters, flying air stations, underwater jets, and innocent sexual tensions between the dashing Sky Captain and his old flame, stout-hearted girl reporter Polly Perkins... what could be better!!! Relax, sit-back with some eight-year-olds, and enjoy.

  • Film Noir, 1940s' style, all make best use of computer

Stumbled across this movie one hot day while channel-surfing, on a preview channel, and HAD to seek a purchase! Set in 1939, Gwyneth Paltrow is fetching in the style of the day, Jude Law carries off a Brit-accented aviator well, Giovanni Ribisi does a great bubble gum-popping mechanical genius, and Angelina Jolie is, well, believable, as a sexy aviatrix. The real triumph of the movie, in MHO, the computer generated comic book graphics. The actors did their acting in front of a blue screen, and Raymond Loewy (designer of the '53 Studebaker Hawks)-inspired graphics in delicious Film Noir white and shades of black and blue (as much as this color-blind guy could tell) make for a viewing experience to just lose yourself within. Great-nephew(13)thought it too dark. dark.

  • I love this movie

If you love a great story, animation, film noir and a nod to beautifully illustrated comic books. I think that you would enjoy this film. And I received a perfect DVD.
