About this product

Product Information

The third entry in the Nintendo DS-exclusive Etrian Odyssey RPG series, The Drowned City sends adventurers on an epic journey across the sea and beneath the waves, in search of the technological secrets and legendary treasures of a sunken metropolis. Similar to its predecessors, Etrian Odyssey III plays with the sophistication of a tabletop role-playing game. The character-class development trees offer abundant branches of specialization, players create their own maps as they explore, and the secrets of a lost civilization await those willing to follow clues and quests to their convoluted conclusions.

Players adventure from a 3D, first-person perspective in the top screen, moving one grid square at a time in the touch-screen map below. With an affirmed "old-school RPG" style, the game rewards patience and perseverance with depth and detail. The Drowned City features a new set of ten main character classes, including diverse choices such as Hoplite, Ninja, and Farmer. Acting as a guild master, players recruit new characters, decide who will go on which adventures, and assign skill development points as they are obtained.

Combat is turn-based, allowing players to formulate strategies and execute tactics that maximize the team-based attacks and defenses of their five-character parties. As in earlier Etrian Odyssey adventures, the game world is a sprawling labyrinth, full of danger and almost completely uncharted at the beginning of the game. By keeping a detailed map in the touch screen, players gradually create an invaluable tool for finding new conquests, as well as for finding the way back to the safety of town to recuperate (and save the game!) after a big fight.

I recently received my package and I couldn't be more pleased! The delivery was prompt, the packaging was secure, and the game was exactly what I ordered. The shipping price was well worth what I paid for the care that went into packaging and delivering the game safely, as a collector that is a huge deal. The product itself exceeded my expectations in terms of quality and functionality. Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with my purchase and the entire delivery experience. Highly recommend!

  • An RPG challenge for the enthusiastic (and patient)!

I had wanted an RPG to play with friends. This is one that allows such play but each participant must have their own DS and DS game chip. I feel this game requires lots of patience as an adult. There is a detailed informative booklet included. Read this. Not much tutorial is included in the game itself so pressing random buttons only increases frustration thus leading to changing over to a different RPG chip altogether. Once you get the game going and are comfortable it really is quite a lot of fun and challenging. There are plenty of options to personalize your characters' talent points and skills. It's very easy to redo your points and skills if you make a mistake or want to try something different. You can mix and match your character creations as there are several different classes: ...

  • Love it or Hate it.....

When Etrian Odyssey debuted on the Nintendo DS in 2007 it, like other Atlus titles, became notorious for its deep leveling system and punishing difficulty. It seems the company has adopted the teaching method of Catholic nuns -- smacking players with a ruler for every misstep. Etrian Odyssey III: The Drowned City continues that tradition. This first-person dungeon crawler RPG (sounds complicated, but it isn't) is one of those games you'll either love or despise, depending on your patience level. If you've played either of the first two games you'll immediately feel at home in the third. Once again you're in a city with a beautiful yet extremely dangerous labyrinth that many have tried to conquer but none have survived. Like the elusive ends of a double rainbow, what lies at the conclusion ...

  • Awesome ds game

Awesome DS game, pretty much made for the dual screen setup. Graphics are good for the hardware and the gameplay is endless, although, as with others in the series, slightly repetative.

  • Great purchase, must have for the DS. Great value for the money!

I was a bit surprised that the game cartridge had been removed from the slot in the box and put into a plastic bag with the manual but I'm a bit nitpicky :P Otherwise GREAT game! You have lots of hours of gameplay for a little price.
