  • A 1960s Love Story

Some may find this story disturbing as it involves a relationship between a young girl and an older man. However it is important to understand that in many cultures relationships such as this took place and actually still do. The relationship in this story is not about judgement, it is about sharing an experience that took place many years ago when such things were not as frowned upon as they are now. Carey Mulligan is a 16 year old student destined for great things until she meets an older man (played by Peter Sarsgaard) then suddenly nothing else matters to her but their relationship. All the while her parents, teachers and friends question her judgement about the relationship. The story is about young love in the 1960s England. It is about how one girls life is suddenly changed when ...

  • An Education

A suburban London teen finds her traditional education replaced by something slightly more sinister when an older, more worldly suitor sweeps her off of her feet while placing her future in jeopardy. London, 1961: 16-year-old Jenny is smart, attractive, and eager to start her adult life. She's grown tired of the familiar adolescent routine, so when urbane newcomer David appears in town, Jenny senses a rare opportunity to shake things up a bit. Quickly falling under David's spell, the impressionable Jenny begins accompanying her newfound beau to classical concerts, art auctions, crowded pubs, and dinners that stretch into the small hours of the night. Although it is slow, it is a large array of emotions. It is deep, emotional, beautiful, and heartbreaking. Set in 1960s England, 16 year old ...

  • An IFFY Choice

This is a definite chick flick and as such is not a good choice for anyone who actually wants to enjoy the story. It has a marginally good message but not really worth paying to hear it. On the other hand if you are a fan of the upcoming star Carey Mulligan, it is worth the effort to see it. She has a great style and is a welcome sight in an otherwise dull movie. If you are a woman you should have a higher opinion of this movie. The woman who recommended it to me gave it a solid 8 so it does have a good following. Thus if the prospective buyer is female, skip this review and find someone more in tune with what this movie has to offer.

  • Review of An Education

This is an interesting movie. Set in 1960's England, it really captures the feel for that time period. Carey Mulligan is dominant. She'll have an Oscar, or two, one day. She shines in this movie, with a spectrum of emotions. Peter Sarsgaard sets aside his stateside accent to credibly portray his character. Rosamund Pike, a brilliant lady and fine actress, shines as she portrays a dumb blonde. Pike and Mulligan were both in Pride and Prejudice. And also worth noting is Olivia Williams, who has an interesting role as a teacher. Ms. Mulligan's character, Jenny, grows from little school girl to and educated woman... just on the edge of troubling, this is a movie worth watching.

  • Great movie! Better than I expected!!

I kept seeing and hearing previews about this movie that I had never even heard of. So, I decided to rent the movie. But, I dont have Netflix or any of the cable channels that offered the movie and finding a Block Buster has become almost impossible! Bought the movie on Ebay. It came right on time! This movie was very well executed! Right down to the casting and details of its era. This story was totally believable and something that mature female young adults and the parents of mature female young adults can relate to. At first, I was a little on the edge, not knowing exactly what to expect from this type of film. But, I must admit to being pleasantly surprised at the outcome. Totally understand now, for myself, why this film got so much praise!
