This fighting game is not like other fighting games. So, don't think it is a side scroller. More like a great classic beat'em up fighter. this has solid graphics, gameplay is fun/easy learning controls, and the monsters are very cool and creative. King Kong is juat a name that would immediately pop into your mind when you see the characters. Congar is your King Kong. He could be said that he is very balanced ground based, but one combo loving, hard hitting monkey. Then add to the fray of moves the long and short specials. Grab an object and pound it into the head of your enemy, skewer yor enemies with radio towers, and flag poles. Throw it, steal it in air, grab opponents, and kick butt are all easy learning controls. The creativity of the moves, and how you can stomp on people and blast buildings apart are very cool. Then you have the Energy and Health pick ups. The taunt-then-have-extra-power-until-your-energy-runs-out is very cool. The special attacks that you can use is nice and effective(Congar's Scream goes through walls/buildings). Then the enemy AI is very well-put and adjustable. Pro's- Original/New looking characters you can name from movies Simple yet effective control scheme. AI is splendid. If it looks destructible, it most likely is. Ending movies make sense to the monster creation. Con's- When you put AI difficulty up, be prepared immediately!! Mini-games hard to grasp at first.Read full review
War of the Monsters is a great game. It is very much like an updated version of the old arcade game Rampage. There is a mission mode, which is ok, and theres a 2 player mode, which is awesome. You can select from a number of large monsters and fight in a city. The cities are completely interactive. You can pick up cars and throw them and you can climb and destroy buildings until the entire city is leveled. The more missions you play, the more levels and characters you can unlock. You can also unlock several minigames, which can be pretty entertaining. 2 player mode has a split screen, but when the 2 players get close to each other, the screen changes to a single screen. Many times this transition can cause slight disorientation and force you to change the direction you are trying to go on the controller. This is probably the worst part about the control of the game. But overall it is a very good game. Even after you have unlocked everything it is still fun to play in 2 player mode for hours.Read full review
The completely destructable environments, great monster choices, (Rhodan, Godzilla, King Kong without them being Rhodan, Godzilla, King Kong) and fast gameplay make this a top game. The only things that kind of limit the game are the small environments, the action is too "fast" making the game feel like it isn't as epic as it could be. More military interaction with damage possibilities would have been nice, too. But if you want a beat 'em up party game, you need to look no further. My nieces and nephews still get a kick out of the game, and I have had it for 3 years. It is unfortunate that they never came out with a sequel to this game. I would have bought it in a heartbeat.
Best game I’ve ever played! I remember back in 2003 when this game came out and me and my brother played it for hours! Years later, we are finally playing this game again! It’s so nostalgic! They really kept good care of the game and it was in perfect condition when it arrived. No scratches or any glitches. Perfect!

The kids and I play these games together when I have extra time. However, the games are mostly for their enjoyment! War of the Monsters is fun if you like hunting, capturing and/or shooting. You get to select characters, attacks and weapons as power ups! And of course there is upgrades to be won! We collect Playstation games, so of course this was another purchase for that as well! PS2 still rocks at our house and will for years to come!
I purhased this title for it's multi player options along with the facts that you can unlock different characters along with variation costumes extra levels and to top it off you can also use the enviroment to your advantage. Such as destroying a building picking up a chunk of concrete and hurling at your foe or using it as a shield among other things. Plus this title is no longer available in stores. Hard to find. Still it is possible to complete this game rather quickly, which can be a problem. However if a person can play a videogame more than once than they should enjoy this.
War Of The Monsters is a wonderful video game tribute to the old radioactive/giant/alien monster drive-in movies of the 1950's! The monster designs, game controls, and level designs are just fun and very cool! Man, oh man, War Of The Monsters takes it to a whole other level of sheer mayhem and massive amounts of property destruction! This game is just excellent! Buy this!

I bought this actually game from Gamestop after I returned one game and traded it for another. I thought War Of The Monsters would be similar to Godzilla: Save The Earth, but was I dead wrong! The controls are awful! Turning the camera sucks when your being attacked and its difficult to strike back. At least in the Godzilla: Save The Earth PS2 game, you can easily counter and repel your enemies back. Graphics are good and destroying is great. Everything is Destructible! Sound is good. Now comes the biggest problem with the game, the A.I.! The computer will attack quickly and never stop. I don't like combo games unless they make the controls easy to figure out. I was getting my ass kicked repeatedly! This game is nothing more than a button masher! I quit after 5 minutes! Don't get this game if your a novice or casual gamer! Hitting buttons will wear out your fingers and your patience!!!!!!!Read full review

This fun game is great even for young children. The animated characters are non-threatning in the real world so even young kids will probably not confuse the action with reality. Winning seems to be harder for adults which is great fun. My 2 grandsons ages 3 and 4 are pros at the game as they throttle the monsters played by their father almost every game - and he is not losing on purpose! (Added to the Review: The kids are now ages 6 and 7 with a new grandson, now age 3 - the older boys still love the same game! The longevity of their interest shows this is a pretty cool game they do not get tired of playing. The new grandson has just started playing recently. He also understands the difference between make believe and real life.) It does have violence some parents may object to, however my kids have no proplem understanding this is just a game. No one gets killed for real or for very long. The monsters can be pre-picked for players choice. One player might be a godzilla-like monster while another player can choose to control a giant robort or other cool character. There are lots of running, jumping and fireballs crashing buildings and city vehicles. The game does have "blood" but it is not anything gross or scary, except possibly by very sensitive children. Also, buildings and vehicles get blown up, much the same as can be expected if a couple of 10-story monsters fought each other in a city of tall buildings and parked vehicles. Easily designed for easy learning. I would buy it again, even if it is only to watch my son-in-law receive a bit of humility! lolRead full review
