A great little 8X Monocular.
I own one of these. The item is very small, somewhere around 3.5-4.0," with a narrow diameter. Good for your pocket. The case is plastic and rubberized. There is an attachment on the side for a carry strap. A nifty vinyl zipper-case comes with it that slips over your belt. This provides protection from the elements, which is important because this monocular is not waterproof. I have tried the Carson monocular, and the Roxant. I think this Vivitar is significantly better because of the great contrast and clarity of the Vivitar's optics. The whites to not turn to shades of gray. The edges of characters do not blur. There is a single adjustment to focus the lens. I have a much more expensive Pentax 8X monocular which we use when driving our motorcycle through the mountains. We can pull off ... We can pull off and catch a great view. Great color, contrast, clarity, with a lot of light in its large lens. But that monocular is probably 8 times the size of this little guy. Sometimes it isn't practical. This Vivitar gives us another 8X monocular option that is much quicker on the draw, and much lighter. For most purposes it will be sufficient, especially when hiking. It's optics can't compare to the bigger lens, but it is still pretty darned good. You can also find on the internet attachments that will enable you to connect this to the camera lens of your phone, giving you a true 8X optical telephoto lens of reasonable quality. I don't think you can beat this little Vivitar monocular for the price.
