  • The Devil's Highway book

I needed this book for school and it was cheaper for me to buy it on half.com. I was able to receive the book in time for my class, which was great! I did not know exactly how long it would take to get here, but it was here fast. Buying your books on half.com are much cheaper than in the book store at school. It is a good book that tells about a group of 26 illegal immigrants and their quest to cross the border into the U.S. I had to write a paper on one of the questions in the back of the book. It is a great story to understand what the illegal immigrants go through when they cross the border in that particular section of the border.

  • One hot road.....

Bleeding hearts sing out!!! So, the book is about the trials and tribulations that illegal immigrants must take in order to get into the United States via a miserable journey that can be compared to walking on the sun. The book itself is kind of hard to follow in certain points and I really didn't appreciate the fact that there are passages that aren't translated from Spanish into English. I would have never picked up this book if I wasn't forced to write a paper on it for school. Its a good story but, I just don't think that illegal immigrants need to have their journey glorified and basically have them made into heroes for leaving their families in Mexico in order to deal with "Coyote's" and La Migra and of course the "Highway" itself. I wanted to read a little more on what the border ...

  • Skewed narrative of a tragic incident by America-hating author.

Good re telling of a tragic incident. Could've been so much better. The author skewed the story by inserting his politics (he hates America). The illegals bore no fault for crossing the US borders illegally yet the Border Patrol Agents were evil for enforcing our laws and protecting our borders.  Although he claims to have enjoyed unfettered access to Border Patrol resources, the author still hints that they "lied and hide" information. He never --even begrudgingly-- admits that ALL of the aliens would have died had it not been for the selfless, tireless and heroic efforts of the Border agents.  This is a highly politicized and skewed story that would have been better as an article in a Latino-themed magazine. Not worth buying unless you can find it for $1 at ...

  • Compelling read, great author!

A great read for anyone curious about crossing into the United States from the crossers, border patrols & legal views. The accounts are complex as any I've read. Author Luis Alberto Urrea is frank as he brings you along through the maze of details which allows the reader to have a personal connection. Tactfully graphic you learn intimate facts of the famous Yuma(?) 14 out of 26+/- men. Visualize their arduous trek, learn who gains and why they risk. All while little known murmurs are being revealed.

  • The cover is not what was pictured.

The book is a great story and very informative. However the cover of the one I got is not what was pictured which is disappointing.
