I had wanted an RPG to play with friends. This is one that allows such play but each participant must have their own DS and DS game chip. I feel this game requires lots of patience as an adult. There is a detailed informative booklet included. Read this. Not much tutorial is included in the game itself so pressing random buttons only increases frustration thus leading to changing over to a different RPG chip altogether. Once you get the game going and are comfortable it really is quite a lot of fun and challenging. There are plenty of options to personalize your characters' talent points and skills. It's very easy to redo your points and skills if you make a mistake or want to try something different. You can mix and match your character creations as there are several different classes: Prince/Princess (General or Leader), Gladiator (warrior class), Hoplite (paladin type), Buccaneer (dps), Ninja (dps), Monk (dps or heals), Zodiac (elemental mage type), Wildling (hunter class), Arbalist (ranger), and Farmer (labyrinth guide/dps). In addition, there are several other special classes that become available after completion of certain missions/quests. I would recommend this for those 12+ and older to appreciate the rpg story and game dynamics. As an adult, I eventually had to take time to read the manual (begrudgingly). Once I started understanding all the bells and whistles I began to enjoy my gaming experience much much better.Read full review
When Etrian Odyssey debuted on the Nintendo DS in 2007 it, like other Atlus titles, became notorious for its deep leveling system and punishing difficulty. It seems the company has adopted the teaching method of Catholic nuns -- smacking players with a ruler for every misstep. Etrian Odyssey III: The Drowned City continues that tradition. This first-person dungeon crawler RPG (sounds complicated, but it isn't) is one of those games you'll either love or despise, depending on your patience level. If you've played either of the first two games you'll immediately feel at home in the third. Once again you're in a city with a beautiful yet extremely dangerous labyrinth that many have tried to conquer but none have survived. Like the elusive ends of a double rainbow, what lies at the conclusion of this labyrinth is a mystery. This formerly-underwater maze was found in the city of Armoroad and you lead a novice guild hoping to endure the risky journey throughout 25 levels across six Stratums. Determined to be the first group to solve it, you'll explore the dungeon, slay creatures, harvest goods and complete questsRead full review

Awesome DS game, pretty much made for the dual screen setup. Graphics are good for the hardware and the gameplay is endless, although, as with others in the series, slightly repetative.

I was a bit surprised that the game cartridge had been removed from the slot in the box and put into a plastic bag with the manual but I'm a bit nitpicky :P Otherwise GREAT game! You have lots of hours of gameplay for a little price.
