About this product

Product Information

Sporting denim and buckskin, 1970s country-rock band Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show came to epitomize the era's laidback, feel-good style. Though their material was sung in a Dixie drawl and three members were genuine Southerners, Dr. Hook started out as a New Jersey bar band chosen to provide musical accompaniment for whimsical cartoonist/composer/poet Shel Silverstein. Led by one-eyed vocalist Ray Sawyer and main songwriter Denis Locorriere, the band went on to score further success with their own humor-laced compositions. This concert film captures Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show at their creative peak, performing live renditions of classic songs like "Sylvia's Mother," "Freakin' at the Freaker's Ball," and "The Cover of the Rolling Stone" with all their trademark bawdiness intact.

  • Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show

This dvd was made overseas somewhere. I think Germany. Anyway, the reason I bought it is because my hubby and I had just re-discovered Dr. Hook's music and we wanted to see how they acted and interacted with each other live. We had heard about their "crazy antics" on stage. Well, they're crazy alright; or stoned...or maybe both! LOL Anyway, we enjoyed being able to watch them at a live recording. Our only sorrow is they stopped singing Slyvia's Mother right in the middle of the song...said they and everyone else was sick of hearing it.

  • dr hook and the medicine show live

I just love this band, but I was really disappointed in them and their promoters to allow such a drunken display of their talents to be promoted. This band is my all time favorite..I had seen them in concert 3 times and was anxious to reminisce all their good songs, but I was embarrassed for them on this sad representation they displayed of themselves in this dvd. They had so many great concerts that they could have rewarded the public worth..the promoters were just trying to make money with scraps that belonged on the floor or in the trash.

  • works

This is a fun dvd. i love the older pre 1980 dr. hook. this film shows excellent raw live no holds barred music. they seemed to be having a pretty good time, probably the booze and or drugs but the music still sounds awesome. the sound and picture quality for this old of a concert was excellent. i would highly reccomend this dvd for anyone who loved the rock bands of the late sixties and early seventies. 5 stars.

  • Too Much Fun

This is an old concert form a TV show in Germany. This DVD lets you realize what one hit wonders these guys were. This is a very loose set and these guys looked like they are fucked up on something fun. Sylvias mother gets interupted because these guys are bored singing it. But "the cover of the rolling stone" is great! A slice of rock and roll life in the 70's
