Chuck Campbell is an amazing steel guitar player and this DVD showcases his techniques, ability and feel for the instrument. Even if you don't play or are just exploring the Sacred Steel style, it's worth getting. For the beginner-- which I am-- there is a lot to learn. Chuck goes into detail of how his instrument is tuned and what the different pedals and levers do. It's pretty complicated, but his playing is spectacular and the insights he give on techniques and feel are good information for any level. Because Sacred Steel does not use a typical E9 tuning but uses an E7, using this DVD could require re-tuning your instrument. Also, many steel players use different set-ups. As a result, Chuck's set-up is a LOT more complex than a typical student or even professional guitar. I would like to see a multi-level DVD that is progressive from Chuck. Sacred Steel players grow up with this instrument, largely, and so become familiar with it at an early age. Seeing the process with a little more method or progression would be helpful for people less exposed to it. For the advanced player, once getting acquainted with the tuning and set-up, Chuck's rich repertoire of playing would greatly enhance playing. There are several nuggets-- call & response, e-bow, picking styles-- that are great to see and listen to, let alone work on. I give this DVD an "A-" and recommend it to anyone interested in Sacred Steel. With just a few improvements, mentioned above, it could easily be an "A+"-- but that's no reason to hold off. Excellent DVD IF you know what you're doing.Chuck is an AWESOME player, and he adequately explains the basics of the Pedal Steel here. The mistake that is made(IMHO) is that the instruction is given on a rig that MOST people will never afford! If you have a 12 string, 7 pedal, 6 knee lever (5 lateral & 1 vertical) steel, you're gonna make out O.K., but most beginners own a single neck 10 string with 3 pedals and 4 knee levers. What were you thinkin' there, Chuck? That is my ONLY complaint. Otherwise, Chuck gives great instruction on the "ins & outs" of Sacred Steel PSG!
