About this product

Product Information

This saga of the Civil War, from 1859 to the assassination of Abraham Lincoln in 1865, is based on the works and original materials of Pulitzer Prize winner Bruce Catton. It focuses on the trials and conflicts of that national trauma as seen through the eyes and sketches of artist John Geyser, whose own family is torn apart by conflicting political sentiments. This acclamied television production was filmed entirely on location with 160 characters and over 6,300 extras.

  • The Blue and the Gray

Anyone who is interested in the Civil War should see this one. I was fortunate enough to get to see them film alot of this movie in the 80's (84, I think). We lived in Van Buren AR at the time and that is where alot of it was filmed. It is a long movie---around four hours, but is made so well, there are not many "slow times"--we didn't want to quit watching it.

  • The Blue and the Gray

I've given two copies away as gifts and I keep of copy of this fine Civil War movie. It is unique in its approach of telling a story. Gregory Peck does a great job as Honest Abe.
