About this product

Product Information

Roland Deschain and his ka-tet are bearing southeast through the forests of Mid-World, the almost timeless landscape that seems to stretch from the wreckage of civility that defined Roland's youth to the crimson chaos that seems the future's only promise. Readers of Stephen King's epic series know Roland well, or as well as this enigmatic hero can be known. They also know the companions who have been drawn to his quest for the Dark Tower: Eddie Dean and his wife, Susannah; Jake Chambers, the boy who has come twice through the doorway of death into Roland's world; and Oy, the Billy-Bumbler. In this long-awaited fifth novel in the saga, their path takes them to the outskirts of Calla Bryn Sturgis, a tranquil valley community of farmers and ranchers on Mid-World's borderlands. Beyond the town, the rocky ground rises toward the hulking darkness of Thunderclap, the source of a terrible affliction that is slowly stealing the community's soul. One of the town's residents is Pere Callahan, a ruined priest who, like Susannah, Eddie, and Jake, passed through one of the portals that lead both into and out of Roland's world. As Father Callahan tells the ka-tet the astonishing story of what happened following his shamed departure from Maine in 1977, his connection to the Dark Tower becomes clear, as does the danger facing a single red rose in a vacant lot off Second Avenue in midtown Manhattan. For Calla Bryn Sturgis, danger gathers in the east like a storm cloud. The Wolves of Thunderclap and their unspeakable depredation are coming. To resist them is to risk all, but these are odds the gunslingers are used to, and they can give the Calla-folken both courage and cunning. Their guns, however, will not be enough.

I was a little disappointed that there was no dust cover, as the picture seemed to indicate there was one. However, the book is in acceptable condition, and the price was certainly right.

  • He's baaAAAAaaackk...

As a diehard King fan for many years and ardent follower of the Dark Tower series, I treated any new installment as a special gift, something that I wanted so badly that I even when I bought it I was reluctant to start, because to start would surely bring about the end. This is no exception. King continues his infamous "Dark Tower" series with one of the most interesting turns yet. The journey halts for awhile as Roland and his band realize that helping the citizens of the Calla is another piece of the puzzle they are trying to solve. King's major strength, his character development, gets a real workout here as the story shifts from the continuing journey to another aspect of a gunslinger, helping those in need of aid. This is a truly great read and one of my favorite in the series. A ...

  • Qdaddy66 Review of "Wolves of the Calla" by SK

I started reading the Dark Tower series many years ago when the first volume (The Gunslinger) was published. I read all the way up to Volume 4, then SK had stopped writing the series for a while. A few months ago I had realized that he had completed the series, so I started it over again from Volume 1, then began procuring Volumes 5-7 via relatives and E-Bay. The main thing I liked about Wolves of the Calla is how it shows the strength and unity of Roland's Ka-Tet and begins to better explain how this series relates to many other SK novels. This is a very entertaining and enlightening Volume in the Dark Tower series! I recommend it and the entire series to any true SK fan!

  • Review

I love Stephen King and this series is unbelieveable. If you haven't started this series I would say it's up there with J.R. Tolken. Imagine Clint Eastwood the no named gunslinger from Hang em High put into a future world that has regressed back into the old west, but he can travel to different sections in time and alternate universes. Basically it's Doctor Who vs. Hang em High. The buying experience was also great because I got a handwritten note from the sender thanking me. It was an all around great experience.

  • Solid book

Item was shipped in a reasonable amount of time, only minor wear on jacket and one page with small corner fold, light black smudge on the bottom of book. Overall, in decent shape and a decent price!
