Reviews
Birds of Washingtom Field Guide," by Stan Tekiela. Published by Adventure Publications.311 pages. $13.95.This handy-sized volume is the only book a beginning birder needs in these parts. It covers 130 species of birds found only in Washington. Most birding books are organized by species. This one does it by the birds' predominant color, so if you glimpse a flash of red or yellow, you can narrow down the possibilities. But that means different birds of a feather, such as mallards and buffelheads, are spread throughout the book. The glossy-paper book has color photographs of each bird, along , with Maps of their summer and winter ranges

  • Birds of Washington Field Guide by Stan Tekiela (2001)

This is a wonderful pocket manual. Only 6" x less than 4.5" makes it easy to carry in your pocket. I really like the way the birds are grouped by color with "tabs" making it quick to thumb through to find whatever color of bird you are looking for. In the case where the male and female are colored differently, they each have their own page in their own color group showing a full color photo. Another helpful tool is a graphic on each page showing a range map. The information listed for each bird is: Size, Male, Female, Juvenile, Nest, Eggs, Incubation, Fledging, Migration, Food, Compare, and Stan's Notes. Quite frankly, I cannot think of any negative comments to make about this book at this time. This book is so informative and user friendly that I find it to be the best bird book in ...
