About this product

Product Information

"[Steve Berry] has a genuine feel for the factual gaps that give history its tantalizing air of the unknown."-- The New York Times Book Review After narrowly escaping incineration in a devastating fire that consumes a Danish museum, Cotton Malone--former Justice Department agent turned rare-book dealer--learns from his friend, the beguiling adventurer Cassiopeia Vitt, that the blaze was neither an accident nor an isolated incident. As part of a campaign of arson intended to mask a far more diabolical design, buildings across Europe are being devoured by infernos of unnatural strength. Born from the ashes is a new Eastern European nation whose ruthless leader will soon draw Cotton into an intense geopolitical chess game against a shadowy cabal of power brokers. The prize lies buried with the mummified remains of Alexander the Great--in a tomb lost to the ages for more than two thousand years. Trekking from Denmark to Venice to Central Asia, Cotton and Cassiopeia are determined to solve an ancient puzzle whose solution could destroy or save millions of people--depending on who finds the lost tomb first. "There's nothing tastier than a globe-spanning mystery. . . . Berry's books excel at bringing out fascinating tidbits of history." --Richmond Times-Dispatch

  • My 1st Steve Berry-Definitely NOT My Last - Excellent!!

I picked up The Venetian Betrayal in the airport's bookstore because I thought the storyline was interesting. Boy, was I wrong!! The story is phenomenal, not just interesting!!! I absolutely could not put the book down and finished the entire thing in 1.5 days. Berry's writing style is moving, painting visual pictures for the reader and making the reader feel as if he or she is part of the action. He moves the plot along at a very nice pace, picking up speed when needed and providing background where required, the entire time enticing the reader to stay with him and go to the end. I thought the Venetian Betrayal was an absolutely incredible read. I bought it 8 August, 2009, finished it the morning of 10 August, 2009 and in the last two weeks, I have read two other Steve Berry ...

  • A Great Read!!

This book was passed onto me and was referred to as a pretty good read… It’s an excellent read!! Steve Berry intertwines fact with fiction in such a convincing fashion that the story is very believable. From the use of Greek fire, to the discovery of Alexander the Great’s actual grave, and the discovery of a virus killer that would be worth billions and billions of dollars. You are transported from Denmark to Venice to Central Asia, as the forces of good and evil are both highly determined to solve an ancient puzzle. If the power-hungry Irina Zovastina and her minions solve it first, millions of people will die; but if the former Justice Department agent, Cotton Malone and friends beat her to it, they will save millions of people. The characters are wonderfully written with a plot ...

  • Typical Steve Berry Book

I bought this book because I've been a fan of all of Steve Berry's other books. This one did not let me down. The writing style is the same as Berry's other books with the use of history and myth to create a great thriller novel. It brings back the old characters who continue to have their wild adventures. The book is full of twists which will keep you reading. If you like historical/fiction/myth books that are also thrilling, than this one is for you. I really enjoyed it.

  • The Venetian Betrayal

Having discovered this author, Steve Berry, he has opened up to me a new set of books to read. His attention to detail and places keeps you interested from the first page, and he uses his characters in most of his books. Very enjoyable book by an interesting author.

  • great book great author
