This date is the second year of issue for the Jefferson Nickel series. It has a very small mintage of 3,514,000 and it's the second lowest mintage nickel in the series. Only the 1950-D Nickel has a lower mintage. Despite having a slightly higher mintage than the 1950-D nickel, the 1939-D brings a higher premium since very few coins were saved and many of them got lost in circulation.
This is one of the more collectible of all Jefferson nickels. To find one uncirculated and beautiful toning like this particular one has, makes it extra special and of greater value.

The coin was not perfect but it was decent and fit the budget. There were a few bag marks and a little toning but the quality of the coin and the price made it a bargain. If I had to do it over again, I would still purchase the coin.
