About this product

Product Information

"A stunning combination of fluent prose and exquisitely wrought illustrations" (School Library Journal). "An inventive twist on the classic tale" (Publishers Weekly). This Egyptian spin on the classic Cinderella tale was initially recorded in the first century by a Roman historian and is retold here by folklorist Shirley Climo. Poor Rhodopis! She has nothing--no mother or father, and no friends. She is a slave, from the far-off country of Greece. Only the beautiful rose-red slippers her master gives her can make Rhodopis smile. So when a falcon swoops down and snatches one of the slippers away, Rhodopis is heartbroken. For how is she to know that the slipper will land in the lap of the great Pharaoh himself And who would ever guess that the Pharaoh has promised to find the slipper's owner and make her queen of all Egypt Notable Children's Trade Book in the Field of Social Studies (NCSS/CBC)

  • The Egyptian Cinderella

I liked this book because I read it to my first graders and compared the different cultures. We read this version of Cinderella, the disney version, the Spanish, and Native American versions, and are anxiously awaiting the Korean Cinderella and Chinese Cinderella. This book introduced numerous important concepts to my first grade classroom about how people in the world are different and similar. Reading the different versions of Cinderella helped me to create a classroom where everyone knows it is ok to be different. In addition, we compared landmarks in different countries and discovered globe. We discussed where the continents were in relative location to one another, and created an "I wonder chart" about why different versions of Cinderella exist. This book was an excellent ...

  • Cinderella? Which Cinderella??

This gives a couple of new twists to the familiar story and the artwork alone would make it a winner-both together make it a WOW! As a teacher, I plan to have the students compare and contrast it with others about Cinderella from all over the world. I've found 15 different "Cinderellas" so far that can be read by elementary students on Ebay-yea Ebay!
