About this product

Product Information

At the height of World War II, an emotionally remote Austrian mountain climber (Brad Pitt) journeys to the holy city of Lhasa, Tibet in search of peaks to tame and finds instead an unexpected friend in the form of the young Dalai Lama. Under the influence of the holy leader, the mountaineer--and, not coincidentally, Nazi Party member--begins a personal journey that leads to a greater self-awareness and inner wisdom. Adapted from the eponymous memoir by Heinrich Harrer.

    Excellent movie!

Not sure why I never saw this movie when it was first released, but glad I was able to watch it now. Brad Pitt was excellent and the story is based on a true story so that made the movie even more enjoyable.

    seven years in tibet

very unhappy and disappointed that this movie was ruined by movie company that cut the movie down to fullscreen. this movie was made in widescreen. it shows Tibet and the Himalayas in panivision. I thought since this movie was a newer one it would automatically be widescreen. the description of the movie said nothing about the movie being in fullscreen on ebay. not happy. great movie.

  • One of Brad Pitt's best

This is an awesome movie in which Brad Pitt played Heinrich Harrer, a Nazi mountain climber who is commissioned by Hitler himself to plant the Swastika on the peak of Mt. Everest only to go through a series of turns of fortune and events that eventually lead him to Tibet and meets as well as befriends the Dalai Lama.Heinrich eventually becomes the teacher and tutor to the young Dalai Lama until the Chinese invasion of Tibet in 1950. Heinrich returns to his native Austria to be reunited with his estranged son.The film ends with Heinrich and his son reaching the peak on Mt.Everest thus completing his original mission but Heinrich plants the Tibetan flag.It was a very well made movie that was sadly underrated in spite of the fact that Brad Pitt starred in it.However, the movie did ...

  • Good movie, but sad.

Saw this movie when it first came out years ago and loved it. Unfortunately, I could not find the movie to rent anywhere, so I had to purchase it just to watch it. However, I'm sure I will watch it again, so it was worth it.

  • Seven Years in Tibet (actually historical)

This is a wonderful historical movie. It tells about the struggles in Tibet and about a man who became a lifelong friend of the Dali Lama. Personally, I loved the movie. It is not fast actioned as many of todays movies are, but is a good family movie and a great way to teach family members some history. It does ten to move slowly, but I did not find that a problem as it is so interesting. My family also loves this movie and it is a favorite of ours to watch. We owned it on VHS before purchasing the DVD. Brad Pitt and his costar can't remember his name) do an excellent job of portraying the main characters. We did not get bored with this movie at all!
