  • Second Only to "Schindler's List"

Of the wide-release, narrative, political films made in the second half of the 20th century, surely "Reds" ranks as one of the best. "The Manchurian Candidate," "All the President's Men," "The Candidate," and "Sweet Bird of Youth" are all interesting mixtures of fact and fiction that actually pale next to Beatty's gutsy work. Even Oliver Stone's work on historical situations and figures, "Platoon," "Salvador," "JFK," and "Nixon," seems--as fine as it is--too slick and slightly impersonal compared to the political vigor and sexual dynamics explored in this bio-pic of Jack Reed, Eugene O'Neill and Louise Bryant. The depths of feeling and intelligence in this film, despite your feelings about Communism, can make you glad to be alive. Thank you, Warren Beatty, for giving this story to the ...

  • Warren Beatty has a magnificent achievement here!

This is one of the greatest movies ever made. In a search for idealism gone astray Beatty argues for a journey into the experiment of those on the continent who have sought a communal way to exist caring for more than their own sense of material well being. Diane Keaton is a lovely sweetheart and is unforgettable as Louise Bryant his love interest in the movie, and who becomes his wife. Jack Nicholson has a rather interesting role with some pent up frustrations in his desire for Keaton. A movie made on a grand scale this is a great achievement and accomplishment for the hollywood film industry and certainly for Mr. Warren Beatty personally. Own it!

  • Reds is a Must See

This film is a classic. It's about the days preceding the Russian Revolution and the excitement that the idea of communism created. Depicted from the point of view of an American journalist (Warren Beatty) over a period of years, the film shows how that communist ideal was corrupted by politics and power. Diane Keaton plays his love interest, and it's wonderful to see her at the beginning of her career. Great acting, great direction, great script. I remember enjoying it when it first came out, wanted to see it again, and wanted my kids to see it for its historical importance. I bought it because it is very long, about 4 hours and 2 discs long. I don't usually buy movies, but I knew I wanted to see it at my leisure. In fact, I watched the first disc a couple of weeks ago and have ...

  • Too Long For Me

Interesting story, but I wish there had been more coverage of the Russian Revolution as opposed to the main character's political/social views. Also, all the interviewees made the movie way too long.

That’s entertainment! A big deal when it came out in theatres and still holds up as time has gotten behind us!
