      The author has wisdom

      I like the simplicity and factual basis of Florence Scovall Shinn's books. She is an excellent author and from all accounts an excellent manifestor. She is most helpful to those of us in life who have not "arrived" yet. I read only a few pages at a time so I can take time to absorb and practice her methods. And THEY WORK.

      " Too fundamentalist/ evangelical Christian in its tenor"

      I bought this book at the recommendation of a "friend of a friend". I don't have a problem with the Christian faith when it practices "do unto others as you would have them do unto you", but this book is far more evangelical Christian than I was anticipating. Much of the content revolves around metaphysical practices/meditations for attracting money and this doesn't appeal to me. The writing is very simplistic.

      I was originally loaned this book by a friend, and less than 1/3 of the way through it I was online to buy myself a personal copy. It is actually four books in one: The Game of Life and How to Play It, The Power of the Spoken Word, Your Word is Your Wand, and The Secret of Success. The teachings in this book regarding the power of the spoken word and its ability to create magic in one's life are simple, direct, and to the point. She gives many examples of affirmations that may be used for various situations, and offers practical, easy-to-understand suggestions on how to create your own. She also offers many examples of life-changing experiences which have resulted from the application of the teachings. Her humorous, if slightly old-fashioned, anecdotes are entertaining as well ...

      Understanding the power underlying Positive Thinking.

      I read about this book on one of the sites I frequent. The communicator to that site stated that the work of Florence Scovel Shinn was superior in content to such recent books as "The Secret." Having read a number of such books, I decided I had to see how it was superior to those. I purchased the Wisdom of Florence Scovel Shinn book, because it contained all four of her books; the last one being, a compilation of her previously unpublished material. Her work focuses on the nature of our relationship to God, in that it encourages an ongoing collaboration. This is not "religious" material as such; she does refer to Biblical passages and material with her personal interpretation of their meaning.       Excellent and Inspiring Book! Great Value!

      This is a compilation of Florence Scovel Shinn's four books into one incredible gem. Shinn taught in the 1920s and 1930s and many of the short chapters seem to be taken from her talk notes. I bought this because I loaned my copy out and never got it back. I've read this several times in the past and got something new each time. Her "intentions" and "affirmations" work predate - and in my opinion surpass - many of the more recent metaphysical coaches and teachers including Wayne Dyer and Louise Hay (both of whom I love). Shinn's advice is down to earth and practical. She tells stories that, while sometimes dated to the 1920s, still have enormous value for today.
