This grip is good. the stick to control the focus point has a different feel from the camera. I was afraid that I wasn't going to be able to back button focus, but that was just a button assignment that I had to change in the camera. Had the camera's AE button already setup for that. Now it's just overcoming the muscle memory from my d3300, which didn't have all the options, so my hand still had to change positions and do strange things.This grip is good. the stick to control the focus point has a different feel from the camera. It is an OK camera grip. I was pleased to find that it was light,which I liked. The build quality seemed fairly good, I didn't see any defects in the product. The camera battery fits snug in its cradle and was easy to install. The camera battery cradle locks easy and feels secure. After testing the AA battery cradle it did not work. Installing the grip to the body of my camera "A D7100" I can see light in between the grip and the body of the camera although the grip secures nicely and snug to the camera. The gap is very small and isn't very noticeable unless you inspect closely. Doesn't feel loose at all, very solid. The look of the grip on the camera is appealing, I like the look. From what I can tell it matches the texture of the Nikon body. The shutter works with auto focus ... It is an OK camera grip. I was pleased to find that it was light,which I liked. I have read that the shutter button on the vertical grip is an issue while shooting in landscape due to your palm brushing against it although I have huge hands and this isn't a problem. The design kinda blocks your hand from pressing it however I am sure it is possible if you try hard enough. The dials are a little ruff and not as smooth as the ones on my Nikon although they function, but it does take a little to get use to. Iso, Shutter speed, F stops works great with the front and rear dials, as well as the AE-L and AF-L functions. The navigation button works well but I don't think I will use it. Other than the dials being a little tight and ruff this is a good product. As far as durability goes, I don't know. I am hard on things so this will be a good test for it. * Update- Recently I visited the St. Louis Zoo and attached my 150-600mm Tamron lens to the D7100. I decided to attach the shoulder strap to the battery grip and immediately started to feel movement. I would not recommend carrying the camera with the grip attachment with a heavier lens. Fortunately my 150-600mm glass has a slip ring for tripod mounts. So far so good on this grip. I have shot allot of stills and it works flawlessly except for sporting a heavy lens. I have found more light emitting through the grip and the paint in rubbing off. 2 months I owned it. Stephan and Tina

Battery grip
I am liking it so far. I have used it out on 3 outings still have not changed my batterys. It gives me more confident s in portrait mode. It is easy to use for back button focus. It does make it bigger just more pro body looking.

On the Nikon D7100 and D7200, the Neewer MB-D15 battery grip does everything the Nikon brand battery grip does - and at a fraction of the cost. The extra set of controls for the shutter release, command dials and the ability to use back button focus when shooting in the portrait (vertical) orientation is the main reason I like using it, and the extra bulk actually makes the camera balance and handle easier than without it. Oh yeah, and it doubles the battery life, too. Buy one. I have noticed a few critical reviews online of this particular item, but to be truthful, mine has been exemplary in every way, and as long as care is taken in fitting it securely, there have been no problems whatsoever. The grip does let a little light show between the grip and camera base, but it in no way affects the camera usage, also the battery info in the camera menu reads both batteries and correctly identifies the charge levels. It is a great item and at a much lower cost than the original Nikon unit.
