McNaughton takes his first dive into lesbian erotica (he would go even further in WILD THINGS), bestowing upon viewers a racy shower scene in which Carol is seduced by one of her fellow inmates. In the tradition of classic women-behind-bars films such as CAGED HEAT, WOMEN IN CAGES, and CAGED FURY, GIRLS IN PRISON is both a satisfyingly overstuffed collection of guilty pleasures and a campy noir thriller.
