Best ever opener
This is the 5th electric can opener I have purchased. Each of the previous four left me unsatisfied. I would not have purchased another one of these, but my mother really like the features. Obviously I purchased it for her. This can opener purchase is a replacement for the same make and model that I bought for my mother less than eight months ago. The Smooth Edge.
This Hamilton Beach smooth edge can opener replaced a conventional type electric can opener we received as a wedding gift 43 years ago. It's very nice and easy to operate. The base of it is just a little smaller than our original one because it had the built in knife sharpener. The Hamilton Beach is considerably taller to handle opening those big industrial size cans without having to let the can hang over the side of the counter. This brings up the fact that this can opener can be a wall hugger without the electrical cord sprawled out on your counter because the electrical cord is conveniently stored inside, so you only need to pull out enough to plug it in. This can opener will also open any configuration can on the market. My wife and I just love the fact of no more sharp edges and lids falling down into your food if the magnet doesn't have a good hold. The other thing we like since neither one of us eats a whole can of soup in one sitting is being able to put the lid back on the can to go into the refrigerator. Now if this Hamilton Beach lasts half as long as the first can opener we'll be set for the rest of our lives. Why the old style of can openers are still being produced in this newer idea of correction for every one and everything is beyond me. I shopped around online and found this one I bought for $31.00 and free shipping on Ebay. "If" there were any complaints, it would be the selection of possible colors. You'll need to be happy with black and stainless steel together. Don't get me wrong it looks very nice, but when the rest of your appliances are white it kind of sticks out. Purchased this unit for my elderly Mother who is severely visually limited, She can use it with ease, due to unit's simplicity and stability. she could NOT use a "normal" type electric can opener of the style that a magnet holds the lid. She also likes the fact that this Unit opens the cans in such a way that the lid can be used as , well......a lid after can is open, with NO sharp edges...Very happy with this Hamilton Beach can opener!!!! I know this review sounds like I'm a salesperson but I am not, and if the product was inferior, that would be reflected here. This is the best can opener I have ever owned. I love the fact that it opens the can on the side of the can instead of on the top (more sanitary). Easy to use for opening cans, always works on the first try as compared to the can openers that open on the top of the can, I always had trouble opening cans on the top models, it would take many tries to align the can just right (very frustrating)!
