About this product

Product Information

Get comfortable and enjoy extended music sessions courtesy of the Denon DCM-280 5-disc CD changer. This Denon 5-disc unit features a multilevel noise shaping D/A converter that gets rid of jitters to beautifully enhance audio quality. The dimensions of the unit are 17.1 inches wide, 15.4 inches deep, and 4.5 inches high. This product is equipped with an infrared remote control, which puts the user in charge of their playlist and other system settings regardless of their distance from the unit. It gives you the option to combine up to 32 tracks from as many as five of your favorite CDs. It's simple to create customized playlists using the variety of audio playback modes. The Denon unit supports multiple playback formats including CD, CD-R, MP3, and CD-RW. Because the unit is able to handle MP3 discs, you can have up to 10 hours of nonstop music per disc. That means you could listen to MP3s on this system for two days straight without hearing the same song twice. Uninterrupted listening time is an outstanding feature for someone who enjoys their entertainment through music. Denon's quiet carousel changer mechanism makes it possible for CDs to make a smooth switch without emitting any distracting noise during operation. Additionally, there is a play exchange that allows for swapping out four discs while still listening to the audio on the fifth disc. The changer rotates clockwise or counterclockwise through the remote control to ensure faster disc switching. The disc-switching technology makes the Denon unit an ideal choice for continuous audio playtime. There are three convenient modes of random playback, including full random, program random, or disc sequential random. Your music collection will always stay fresh when you switch up the tracks with this changer.Connections on the black unit include SPDIF output, audio line-out, headphones, and system component controls. Connectors are located at the front and rear of the system. Frequency response on this system ranges from 2Hz to 20kHz, allowing for a smooth listening experience. The signal-to-noise ratio on the DCM-280 is 108dB while the dynamic range is 98dB. The output on the Denon has a set of left and right analog units, which are needed when listening to an MP3. There is the option for a direction connection to a minidisc, CD recorder, or surround receiver through the coaxial digital-audio output. Additionally, a headphone jack is accessible on the Denon unit for regular listening at home. The headphone jack is a convenient option so that you can plug in a pair of headphones to enjoy music alone. Keep in mind that a headphone jack is not available on alternative units, so this is a winning feature on the DCM-280.

  • Good for the price

I've owned two used DCM-280, and I think they're good products for the price. I really like being able to load up the player with home made MP3 discs, putting it on random play and letting it play for hours and hours. It will occasionally, but very rarely, cut a song off midway, and sometimes, though rarely, repeat a song already played. The first one I owned lasted 5 or 6 years, then suddenly stopped working. Since I only paid $45 for it, and literally got hundreds of hours of use from it, I figured I got more than my money's worth. I just bought another used one, for $58, and so far it is working fine. I hope it lasts as long as the last one did. They're simple and easy to use. There is of course time between songs when shifting to another CD, and the shifting of discs is plainly audible. The sound quality is very nice as well.

  • Great quality build and sound for the price.

If you want a remote controlled unit, consider the DCM-280R model. The DCM-280 does not have the capabilities of remote control. Other than that, it works great, sounds wonderful and I got it for a bargain price on eBay. I have owned Denon receivers, turntables, and CD players and changers since the mid-1980's. I have always been pleased with them. Still use the turntable 30+ years later and just bought a second on eBay. It is a DP-45F, and I would recommend it, and if you can afford a little more, then look for a DP-47F in good working and clean condition. Denon builds some great equipment. It is not big, high wattage, heavy, '70s vintage gear like Marantz, or top of the line tube gear like McIntosh from the 50's and 60's. Both are in high demand right now and you pay a premium for them. If you want clean sound, at a good price, I recommend Denon gear from the 80's. I am not a big fan of AV receivers of any manufacture. At least not for the audiophile. They do not put out the clean watts of older gear, are complicated and tend to need service often, and they will not last 30-60 years like the vintage audio gear mentioned here.

  • Excellent value

The changer works flawlessly and looks good. You can barely tell it's been used. This brand is well-known to me in home audio products. It is good quality, in fact I also have a Denon DCM -270 changer (also purchased on ebay).
