Taking a page from the career of his old friend Jack Nicholson, Hopper tries remaking THE LAST DETAIL. The film stars Tom Berenger as Rock Reilly, a veteran navy officer who has been assigned to Shore Patrol duty to escort Toni Johnson (Erika Eleniak), a young woman of inhumanly perfect proportions. She's on her way to the base brig, having been unjustly convicted of assault and going AWOL. Aside from keeping an eye on his slick prisoner, he also has to watch out for Eddie Devane (William McNamara), the hustling young swabby who is supposed to be helping him guard the prisoner. But Eddie is so enslaved by Toni's charms that his mind is effectively AWOL. Thus, after her many attempts at escape have been frustrated, she realizes it's time to focus her attentions on Eddie's obsession with her. The film includes cameos by Crispin Glover, Gary Busey, Dean Stockwell, Marilu Henner, Frederic Forrest, and Hopper himself.

I have seen this movie a few years ago. It's a pretty cute movie. Now I don't know where the word cute comes from, I hardly ever use that word for anyting. But I can't really think of another word to describe the movie. Tom Berenger is always good, it's hard to go wrong with one of his movies. William McNamara I just can't place he has one of them familiar faces but I'll be darned if I know why it's a familiar face. And then there's Erika, the original Baywatch babe. She's gorgeous of course, and I think she does a very good job with her character here. Her character is by far the most interesting of the bunch, from why she was being sent to prison in the first place, to her persistence and ingenuity in trying to escape. You can't help but to root for her and to cheer her on. You end up having to root for the guys to even though you have to wonder why they can't get out of their own way. Dennis Hopper directed and had a small part in the movie. His character was pretty comical but personally I think he just kind of phone this one in. With the caliber of talent he is I just think he should have been better in the part. I think the back and forth between the Navy guys and the Marines was a bit much. Navy and Marine personnel really don't care much for each other, at least they didn't decades ago when I was a Marine. The ballbusting between them at the prison was a bit much, it seemed forced and childish. I guess I'm starting to sound a little down on the movie and I really don't mean to be. I really like this movie. I think it's time and money well spent.

Funny. Devane should've been the one going to the brig but got his anyhow. The escape attempts were planned & hilarious, a couple almost worked.

Decent Movie
It's not my favorite movie of all time, but I liked it. I saw it many years ago on HBO and had to have it on dvd and was worth a watch again. If you haven't seen it, then worth a watch, if you saw it years ago, you'll want to watch it again. Ericka Eleniak was a Playboy centerfold and makes this movie worth watching.
