Good Bluetooth that could be Great if manufacturer would tweek it!
This device is heavy because of the speakers large magnet! It is a 5 watt driver and really gets loud! This driver sounds better with a small port since the magnet is so strong. After porting mine the driver still did not distort at max volume and I got more tone down near 60Hz! The military design is a cool theme but really effects the layout of important features. Specifically the rubber accross the Aux Port, Power Button, and Charging Port snd being located on the back side is annoying! The rubber is too soft over the power button! You have to really push it in to get it to click! And the flaps over the ports are thick, short, have a plug stub as well and really get in the way when trying to use the ports! For Sound Quality and Portability I recomend this device over the Soundmine/XL2 and even the Air Raid which has 2 5 watt drivers but smaller magnets and the speakers are not in separate chambers causing a bit of cancellation issue! I believe the on board amp of the Air Raid has a higher cut off frequency that starts near 100Hz and kills any sub bass by 65Hz for the sake of not having any distortion at maximum volume!Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Not quite what I expected
The pros: good price, well built and water resistant. OK for private listening. The cons: either this speaker was defective or the volume output is seriously overrated. I tried connecting to it via Bluetooth and through the aux input, and neither produced a listenable volume until I adjusted the volume level to a minimum of 50% I then tried the suggested built-in sound booster ... still only a minimal difference. Giving the unit the benefit of the doubt I then tried connecting a different device which is a LG V10 with Hi Fidelity output when connected via a auxiliary or headphone jack. Still when I cranked it up to maximum volume it was in my opinion not producing a level consistent with 5watts of output. I have owned a few Bluetooth speakers and even my one's rated at 2 to 3 watts beats this speaker.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

An impressive high quality device: a "must have" bluetooth accessory
Positives: 1) Impressive sound quality; this little box sounds great. 2) When cranked up it is surprisingly loud. 3) Microphone is very sensitive, yet has excellent noise cancellation. 4) Great for use as a speaker phone for conference calls. 5) Battery life appears to be good, but have not tested its limits. 6) Bluetooth range appears to be good, but have not tested its limits. 7) Turns off automatically after a while if bluetooth connection is lost. 8) Very easy to pair bluetooth with mobile device. 9) Supposed to be water resistant, but have not gotten mine wet yet. 10) Very ruggedly built; has nice solid weighty feel to it. 11) Got refurbished for only $20. Negatives: 1) The ON/OFF button is awkwardly located on the back requiring picking it up and turning it around to turn on and off. Not that big of a deal though since this may help prevent it being inadvertently switched. 2) My Shrapnel is paired with an iPod Touch using the MagicJack app for phone calls. The round Answer/Hang-up button on top of the Shrapnel does NOT work with this setup. It may though work with native iPhone or Android phone apps rather than 3rd party apps, but I haven't tested this. Conclusion: An unbelievable value, and high quality "must have" bluetooth accessory. Great sound and value!
This is another high-quality and reasonably priced Skullcandy product. Extremely sturdy and compact, the sound quality is quite remarkable for such a small design. The “Locals Only” color scheme is attractive and unique. Bluetooth integration is seamless. I also like that the unit tells you when it is connected or disconnected to Bluetooth. Charging (USB) and auxiliary cords are provided and ports are easily accessed and conveniently located near the top of the unit. Charges quickly and the battery lasts for a long time. Buttons are large and located at the top of the unit also. Recommend 100% if you looking for a small, sturdy & powerful speaker.
