Piper's Pursuit
This is one of Melanie Dickerson's newest books and definitely a must read! It's about Katerina, stepdaughter of the mayor of Hamlin, and her quest to kill the Beast of Hamlin and stop the rats that have overwhelmed her town. Enter Steffan, one of Duke Wilhelm's younger son's, who is searching for fame and fortune...or at least enough money to get home and a quest noble enough to impress his father. Believing Steffan to be an arrogant, self-centered womanizer, Kat must nonetheless agree to work with him in order to kill the Beast and return the lost children of Hamlin. Along the way there are many complications and unexpected surprises for both Kat and Steffan. Will Kat ever able to trust a man again after the abuse she's suffered? And can Steffan forgive himself for the things he's done? Katerina is one of the spunkiest heroines Melanie has written yet! She is more physically active than any of the others I've seen besides Mulan. She's very direct and honest, sometimes painfully so. She climbs walls, swordfights, and shoots a crossbow. While none of Melanie's heroines are exactly weak and simpering, I would say she and Mulan are probably the most physically strong and active. It was fun to read about her because she was so different from the others, while at the same time, she was still very feminine and extremely vulnerable. Her love story with Steffan was handled very well. Their relationship reminded me of Aladdin's and Jasmine's in the 2019 version of the movie. When I finally sat down to read this, I finished it quickly. It was hard to put down! It was a really unique version, and very sweet too. Good work, Melanie!Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
