The Hunters Soars!
The Hunters by James Salter is the best written war novel in the 20th Century. It is essentially about the character of men in the midst of conflict. It is apolitical and secular--a stripped down, impeccably crafted portrait of what it used to mean to have (and act upon) the confidence of character against a tide of conceit, indifference and fate.
