SynopsisThis long-awaited book is both a history of the woman and the region, as well as a guide to the Stevens method. It includes color plates of original patterns, some only recently discovered, along with a biography illustrated with archival photos., Carrie Stevens (1882-1970) of Upper Dam, Maine, created some of the most beautiful and enduring streamer patterns ever, including the legendary Gray Ghost, which she designed to catch the giant brook trout and landlocked salmon of the Rangeley Lakes. This long-awaited book is both a history of the woman and the region, as well as a guide to the Stevens method. It includes color plates of original patterns, some only recently discovered, along with a biography illustrated with archival photos. The tying section lists dressings for more than 100 streamers, 65 of which have never been published.
This book is well written and full of information about Carrie Stevens life and the Featherwing streamers she made famous. It goes into her life story and the known and unknown streamer patterns. The research done by the author on the subject matter is in-depth and top notch. I highly recommend this book to anyone tying streamers or just the tying and fishing history of Maine. All in all, a great read and well worth the money.
