Great power. Need protection.
This thing is like getting a muscle car after driving a 4 cylinder sedan with manners; at least my first impression. A little heavy but if you spend a few minutes balancing for your height and arm length, it rips through most vegetation short of a machine equipped with either a chainsaw or metal blades. But, power has its limitations. Yes, safety glasses or helmet with face shield, heavy shirt and pants or chaps, boots or shoes would help. Here in Hawaii a tshirt and shorts and flip flops are everyday wear, except when weed whacking, especially heavy brush and or tall grass. This unit comes with a less than adequate protective hood, the grass and twigs come at you faster than you realize. Initial experience produced stinging objects flying at my head and eyes, grass covering the front part of my casual outfit. Lesson learned. Also, tall or long grass tends to wrap itself around the cord head and jams the rotation, forcing you to stop and cut or snip stuff off before resuming. Otherwise, I love the power of 40 volts 4 amps vs my previous wackier with 18 volts.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Don't get your hopes up
The power is great and it's comfortable for me to use. The problems I've experienced are the first order was missing the battery and charger, the unit i have now had like a metal clip inside the power shaft that was preventing the attachment shaft from reaching the full depth, i was able to shave that smooth, and the problem I discovered today after draining the battery is that the charger appears to be faulty, I'm currently charging the battery on a different charger so I don't think the battery is faultyVerified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Great for pole saw attachment.
I originally bought the smaller head unit for the Ryobi 40V expand-it trimmer. It was not strong enough to operate the pole saw attachment. It broke after only two uses of the pole saw. It ran the weed eater ok. This head unit worked great with the pole saw. It felt like I was using the gas powered pole saw again. Well balanced and powerful.
It comes with two types of heads to trim with, one head that has the line in a spool, and a trim head that takes two precut lines or two plastic blades. I like the balance of this trimmer better than the less expensive model. I have a large lot and burned up my last trimmer by swapping out the batteries when they went dead (three 6.0 Ah batteries) without letting the trimmer have a chance to cool down, I think this trimmer will do better but won't over work it like the last one.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Two shafts don't fit together.
The product comes in two primary pieces that are supposed to fit together: The power head shaft and the trimmer shaft. Seems to be fine. The motor dounds a little clunky like it needs brushes but behold it's brushless so maybe that's how it's dupposed to be. I'm shocked at the power it has.
