Written with extraordinary grace and understanding, Patricia Nelson Limerick's The Legacy of Conquest returns the Western American past to the mainstream of national history.
Synopsis
"Limerick is one of the most engaging historians writing today."--Richard White The "settling" of the American West has been perceived throughout the world as a series of quaint, violent, and romantic adventures. But in fact, Patricia Nelson Limerick argues, the West has a history grounded primarily in economic reality--in hardheaded questions of profit, loss, competition, and consolidation. Here she interprets the stories and the characters in a new way: the trappers, traders, Indians, farmers, oilmen, cowboys, and sheriffs of the Old West "meant business" in more ways than one, and their descendents mean business today. 28 illustrations., The "settling" of the American West has been perceived throughout the world as a series of quaint, violent, and romantic adventures. Only four stars for the item because of the pages but the seller did mention that. Also the price was great and fair. This seller is honest, fast with shipping, and care for the item being sold and ship. I additionally like the little thank you sticker that was put on the nicely wrap package. I would definitely buy from this seller again if they have something I need. Highly recommend this seller to others.Exploring Zoology : A Laboratory Guide by David G. - b***5 (15)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseVery well packaged. They are all they were purported to be! Brand new, still in plastic wrap. For me personally, yellow is the most important color in my world, and the manufacturer chose to print the yellow portion of the borders in a shade that appears to me as closer to tan or even gold rather than yellow. After I get the walls painted yellow I will decide whether I will actually use the wallpaper border or not. No reflection on the seller! Seller was great! Just describing my reaction
