It was great to be able to locate an old product like this. My old unit did not cost as much as this product, but I am happy with this purchase. Now maybe I can finish copying my old VHS to DVD's.

We had one destroyed by lightning. Haven't really used this replacement yet, but initial set up went OK. It came very, very badly scratched on top a bit disappointing. We were replacing the same, so fortunately we still had a remote, or otherwise would have had to hope we could find one. Most for sale had no remote. We don't understand why as they are used items.

I bought this item so I can record DTV programs as it has a built in ATSC/NTSC/QAM tuner. I also bought it because we have a lot of VHS tapes and I can play them on this machine. We bought a new TV for our bedroom about 4 years ago and with the RDR-VXD655 I do not need a converter. I was able to hook up the VCR to my TV and receive all of the digital stations. I liked it so much that I bought a total of four to replace all of my VCR’s. I like to keep all of my VCR's the same because once we learn how the remote works we can program all of them in low light and not have to remember which one is which. So far the only negative thing I have to say is that on one out of the four I bought has a loud fan noise. I also don’t like the fact that I cannot add additional channels without going through the whole channel add process. Sony should correct that and allow the addition of any channel on its own.Read full review
I've been a ardent fan of Panasonic VCRs since introduced in the 80s. But a recent acquisition of a preowned unit proved disappointing so I tried this refurbished Sony unit. It is a VERY GOOD VCR. It meets all aspects of setup, recording, and display with ease and quality.

Overall it's a good machine that I glad I bought. Because it can do so many things, it's harder to use and to navigate. For example change a digital channel, you must press four buttons (7 . 1 and set) to get the digital channel 7. Moreover, the stop point when fast forwarding on the VCR continues a bit after you release the button. therefore you need to rewind to find your spot. However you do get super clear HD digital channels with an analog TV and a good antenna.
